Back from the dead with a 1999 Limited

Hello!

I had a 1987 4Runner from 2011-2015, and was pretty regular on this forum during that time. I thoroughly enjoyed the machine, "ruined" it with a SAS in 2013, and sold it in the last days of 2015, needing a more rounded "only vehicle".

Offroading trips to Moab and Ouray in 2018 and 2020 left me with the 4x4 itch again, and I'm in a much better financial situation all these years later. I had been planning on a 4th gen, but recently my coworker's 1999 4Runner limited fell into my lap for a good price. Limited trim, mechanically flawless and well-kept single owner vehicle, with the all-holy rear differential locker, my most sought-after feature.

I'm thrilled to get this thing fully up to speed this winter, and have it take me everywhere the pavement ends in the years to come... and back home.

I look forward to catching up on the last half decade of knowledge and aftermarket support.

Hi and welcome (back) to the forum!

I love the 4Runner but unfortunately haven't found the right one just yet so I'm kind of browsing. Oh, I just joined here myself. Nice to be here.

Got the same year four-runner.

Old girl is a tank. Stone cold reliable until she blew a stupid fuse a few weeks ago.

I took off the side steps, only mod so far.

Congrats on the good find. I was just up in Ouray this week with my brand new T4R. She still has her paper tags and barely any dirt on her tires yet, so we didn’t tackle any trails.

Man I do love the old body styling, aged so well.

i've got roughly the same vehicle -- '99 jade mica, manual 4WD with rear locker. got it two years ago and have been really pleased, though it has had a lot of deferred maintenance that previous owners failed to stay up on. hope you like yours. i pulled off the side steps like BobbyHawktooth and virtually everyone else.

She's proving worthy so far. I had my local guy replace the lower ball joints, and last weekend I replaced the radiator. With the 3rd gen weak-points out of the way, I'm ready for adventure. Have only taken it offroad once so far.

That's awesome/lucky/awesome again. I've got a 2001 Limited and love the leather (plus easier to clean dirty dog and dog hair off of). Wish mine was mechanically flawless! But I had the good men at Japanese Auto Service in CO helped bring it up to perfection. Welcome back!
