Hello. My name is Brooks. I live in Nashville TN. All of a sudden, I feel like I "need" a first gen 4runner. It is either a mid life crisis or the fact that I am a stay at home dad with three kids doing virtual school all day. All day I just think about the spring when I would drive around with the top off. Take the kids to do some light off roading. Show them how to do some basic automotive maintenance. Just have fun.
I know I am over estimating the fun and under estimating the work. I look on Craigslist and the occasional 4runner there looks rough.
Well, I'm really enjoying this forum. I will be reading more and considering the costs and benefits of an old 4runner.
This is so awesome. Im down in Atlanta and just got my first one. Tons of great areas to take these rigs through the mountains. I went out to Blue Ridge last weekend and it is just awesome.
Seriously though with the whole investment thing...I'm shopping for a 4th gen right now and it feels insane what people are asking for rusted out, high mileage T4Rs.
Always wanted a first gen too, I have a 4th gen. What I've seen is a good built first gen will run about 8k to 15k. 15k will be a properly sorted 4runner with little to no work.
I looked around for something reliable when my 2002 Chevy S10 started falling apart, things were just disintegrating. It didn't take me long to settle on a 4Runner.
I am now a proud owner of a 2005 Limited. Just trying to decide about mods or what I want to do with it.
