Hello From Canada!

Hello everyone from Alberta Canada, I'm new to the 4runner/Hilux Surf platform, I just pick up a 2005 TOYOTA Hilux Surf SSR-X 20TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION.

It’s a auction grade 3.5 167,000kms with a 2.7L 2TR-FE, I know it's not a powerful engine or diesel but it sure is reliable, fuel economy, also can haul 4,000 pounds if I'm correct. If your wondering how I can import this vehicle in North America it's because in Canada any grey market vehicle that is 15 years old or older can be imported into Canada

Plans I have once the vehicle arrives to Canada are:

New Tires
Undercoating
Oil Catch Can
Fluid Change
Spark Plugs
Air filter
Fix the faded Trim
Fix Faded painted trim on rear left fender
Chrome delete

Future plans:
3'' Lift Kit
Front Push Guard
All Terrain Tires
Wheels

Here's the Undercarriage, minimal rust but very clean overall

There are 4th gen 4runners available but the problem is that they have over 250,000+ kms on the motor and chassis at a price I don't find reasonable even though these cars can do over 400k kms no problems at all, also the rust on most North American vehicles, I also wasn't looking for a v6 or a v8 unless I was planning to tow a vehicle.

My reason for importing a vehicle from Japan is simple as this, a lot of import vehicles have little to no rust on the chassis (depends on the vehicle), very low kms, very cheap to import (depends on the vehicle), Japan has auction sites that inspects the vehicle and gives it a auction grade, my vehicle is a auction grade 3.5 with interior D exterior C, with correct kms (I have a picture of the vehicle in auction), if the kms were change on the vehicle it would have a ($) or (*) next to the kms, I had a importer company got someone to check the undercarriage and any sort of fluid leaks (I've imported vehicles with this company before so I wasn't worry). I just prefer Right Hand Drive overall then Left Hand Drive vehicles.

very interesting. the rust up here is definitely an issue so the import route makes sense. I've never driven a left hand drive but wouldn't it be hard to make left turns at intersections? the truck looks really nice and clean for sure, finding gems like these is hard but worth the effort if you know what you're doing

I've always wanted a land cruiser but they don't offer them in canada. I don't want to buy an lx570 it's too expensive, as much as I like them. I looked briefly at buying in the USA (like buffalo) and then driving it back but it would have been a lot of effort for a vehicle I didn't 'need'

For making left turns in intersections, it depends, usually the way the intersections are made you can see the on coming traffic or you can't and I would have to push my body to the left to see or wait but that rarely happens, most of the time in Alberta you have to wait for the left turn light to turn green through the intersection but overall it's not as bad as long as your careful.
Since the Hilux Surf is taller then my rhd Subaru Legacy Wagon I'll probably most likely see once I pick up the vehicle but I will be installing a camera on the left side of the window and connect it to a headunit if I want to see traffic a bit better if needed. This model is cheaper then a diesel and a 3.4 and 4.0L and has the same engine as the North America 2005-2013 Toyota Tacoma 2.7 2TR-FE so getting parts will be easy especially the body of the vehicle

That's awesome! Good for you. There's a few Hilux/surf's running around in my area too. What was the importation process like?

Thanks man, it's very easy, I have the importer do 99% of the work, all I have to do is pay the importer service fee, and vehicle/import cost, which depends on the vehicle cost and import fees which are both put together, sign a few documents, and have the vehicle documents to register the vehicle sent to your house, most of vehicle are in auctions so the importer will tell you if the vehicle is in good shape or not, you can tell by the auction sheets and auction grade which you can see on my other post and if you like the vehicle the importer will put a bid on the vehicle and if you win the bid you got the car.

The importing process will take 2-3 months all together depends on the shipping timings. will arrive at your house or in Edmonton Alberta for me where the company has a shop to pass the vehicles out of province inspection, makes things easier for me. I've done this before so it's not hard at all to begin with. In Alberta it's easier for me to get insurance for these types of vehicle then I would in Ontario (depends on age), also since I'm 26 I pay less

Looks good! I know it's not for offroading but that mirror may be useful for wheel placement.
