Sold the JKU, Bought a TRD Off Road

Long time Jeep guy and just finally had enough. So many nickel and dime issues. Not from my buildout but from poor engineering and MOPAR using horribly sourced third party parts. So much plastic in the engine and engine bay. Between 34k and 76k miles I replaced:

Rear spider gears
2 fuel injectors
1 coil and pigtail
3 OEM head units
XM antennae
Oil cooler
Oil filter housing
Front wiper motor
Failed OEM spark plug
Battery lasted 9 months

Looking forward to doing something with this. Several friends with 4Runners so it was time to bite the bullet. Ultimate goal is to build out to travel to Patagonia completely self sufficient.

Who are the preferred parts suppliers for Gen 5 folks?

Welcome. Sorry I missed your initial post.

What do you mean "parts"? I order on-line Toyota parts from McGeorge Toyota.

For upgrades, there are many different fabricators, depending on what you are looking for. Most seem to have very solid products. C4 seems well regarded for bumpers, armor, etc. I added LFD bumpers, armor from LFD and Budbuilt, and sliders from RSG to my rig and am happy with the results.

Let us know what you're looking for, and you'll get varying recommendations covering all the bases.

It's a Jeep thing. Do you really want to spend all that money trying to understand it?

My daughter wanted a JL Wrangler. Two months old it has something loose in the dash. Transfer Case takes too much effort. Freeway driving takes too much effort.

The 4runner just works. Congrats on your purchase.

Congrats. You should see the 4runner is definitely more reliable then the Jeep but even the newer Toyota's have their issues. Having owned and still own multiple generations it's kind of sad to see really.

Welcome and suppliers..

Welcome to the forum!
Speaking personally (I've run jeeps before) you'll find the 4runner so much more comfortable as well as more reliable. The jeeps sure are fun to drive though.

In terms of suppliers, it depends on what you're looking for;

1. For genuine parts, my first stop is always Toyota.

2. For mods.. well it's all personal preference really. Do your research and buy-once-cry-once on a lot of things that relate to external off roading like suspension, racks, tents, recovery gear. Anything to do with electrical that's going to tie into your trucks main power system (alternator & battery) get a professional to do the work unless you're a qualified auto electrician.

Storage can be purchased off-shelf.. Goose-gear, ARB etc. If you find them too expensive you can mod yourself which is what we started off with.

Enjoy your truck!
And stay safe out there.
