I did some rustic camping and trail riding in a '21 Rubicon in July of this year. And it was the best camping I've ever done. No electricity, no running water - but we had everything we needed to have a good time for a few days up in the upper peninsula of Michigan. I was hooked.
I had been using a RTT that was mounted over a utility trailer of mine. It was a good set-up for general use, but if I wanted to camp in some really rustic spots, I knew I needed something else, because my Suburban and the trailer couldn't get down some of the best trails.
So, two weeks ago, I scooped up my first 4runner. A 2020 TRD ORP. I recently added a small refrigerator in back and got my tent mounted to the Gobi rack last night. We also lifted the rear another 3/4" to stay more level when loaded down. I'm slowly getting this thing outfitted the way I need it. Heading back up to the U.P in 7 days for it's maiden voyage.
