My name is Sean and I live in Surrey, BC, about 1 mile north of Blaine, WA. I have a 1989 4Runner Special Edition which I bought new from Strickland Toyota in Goderich ON. It now has 480,000 km / 298,000 miles on it.
I wheeled it a bit in Ontario but it was my daily driver until 2009, now it's a Toy! I put a 2" OME spring/bar set in it and added an ARB bull bar and a rear locker. I just added a 1" body lift.
I recently picked up a solid axle and will be doing an SAS using a Trail Gear 3link. I also have a second transfer case to put behind a MC dual adapter. To kick off the project, I will be getting Slacker ( toyotafiberglass-keepin' the drive alive ) in Penticton to put new high-clearnce fiberglass fenders and quarters on the truck, and I will likely do the door skins, too. Thanks to Corey for putting me on to this site. Once the body is done, the SAS and 36" Super swampers will fit underneath and the sliders, duals and skid plates will go on.
Added a couple of pictures below from last summer and one from long ago. Looking forward to meeting some people and seeing the site!

Sweet, you'll have to post progress pics as this moves on. And being the original owner it'd be cool to see the pics from day one and any changes up to this point too.
There's a testament to Toyota quality right there. Besides the routine maintenance items, is it all original? 22RE or 3.slow? What is the new DD replacement?
Welcome from another canuck.

Thanks.
I managed to add a few pix. It's the original 22RE except for a timing set at 300k. The input shaft bearing went in the tranny around the same time so I had the bearings and synchros done, too. Other than that, it was basically original until the bolt-ons started.
I did the ARB and OME lift first, then added the 17" forged Centerlines and 32" tires, 4.56 gears and the ARB air locker and compressor. After last summer, it's time for more.
Here is a shot with 36"s on one side for fun so you can see where I need those high clearance pieces unless I add more lift.

I like the paintwork of your truck. It's that Vintage-feeling. Is it custom or stock?

Paint
Stock. It was a Special Edition package in 1989. Basically a base 4 cylinder truck with SR5 buckets, chrome grille and mirrors, running boards, two-tone paint. I added dealer-installed air and a cassette deck. The only real factory option was manual vs auto trans.

That's sweet! That's a clean 89, especially from coming from Ontario. Was it there long?
The pic with tires/ bumpers is looking good too, that'll be one fun toy.

Oldie
It was in Ontario until the end of 2000 when I brought it with me to BC. Thanks to Rust Check for keeping it non-rusty! I recently added a CounterAct electronic rust gizmo for extra insurance since it sits outside in the rain a lot now.
Will get some more pix up on the 1st Gen section once I get going.

What’s the deal with everyone digging up 8-10 year old threads lately? Here and on ‘Mud it’s become the “in” thing to do this month!
I would love to know if the truck is still around,as I live about 2 mins away from the OP. I haven’t seen this one around in the 4 years I’ve been here though. The OP also hasn’t posted on here in FIVE YEARS...

1987 Toyota 4Runner crank no start
So I have a 1987 Toyota 4Runner 22re non turbo 4x4 standard transmission. Trucks been sitting for a while and I’ve been trying to get it up and running again, it has spark and it’s getting fuel but will not start, I can feed it fuel through the throttle body and it’ll kick on then stop running after it burns up that fuel, I’m thinking injectors aren’t getting a pulse signal from ecu, any one know of test I can perform to see if it’s the ecu?
