Kansas City area NEWB

Hey,

I've recently purchased an 88 4Runner SR5 V6 "project truck" for my 15 year old daughter. She LOVES older trucks (as do I). Got allot of work to do... but I'm blessed that she already LOVES the way the truck looks (rough). Looking forward to getting some good info on here... to help me out allot. My name is David... Thanks for having me.

Welcome, David. I live in KC as well. Get some pics up first, then go from there.

Thanks for the welcome.... Plan is dependability.... 15 year old daughter just got her learners permit... and this is what she wanted... Has new brakes all around, new shocks & springs (not installed)... prob gonna install some ball joint spacers for a little added front lift to go with new rear springs.... 33x12.50 tires are plenty.

Probably will replace front fenders (heavily cut), get some of the rust fixed, but leave it flat black... as that is what color she wants it. After I get the fuel pressure regulator changed... see how its gonna run and decide what I gotta do with the engine if anything. Interior gonna need quite abit of work too, although she LOVES the yellow racing seats installed up front.

I doubt (hopefully) that she takes it off-road much... although if she's like her father used to be.... it'll go off-road allot!

Looks like a fun project, and a killer T4R!

I'm doing a bit of rust repair at the moment on my '94....Not sure if you were planning to do it yourself, but if it's not too severe damage it can save you some $$$. The earlier Gens tend to get a lot of it around the wheel wells and door sills (namely rear) and behind the rear bumpers (you may not be able to tell without getting under and inspecting behind. Keep us all updated with pictures and any questions.

I always have loved the way a 1st gen looks, by far my favorite looking 4runner.

welcome. I'm from KC too. There are a couple other guys on here that go wheeling sometimes that are pretty cool. I'm in North KC. What part of the city are you in?

Thanks Dylan... I may in fact do some of it myself... but having never done any body work before idk. It's something I'd like to be able to do myself. Luckily... my daughter isn't too picky about the looks.

I'm in Blue Springs... but visit up north quite a bit as that is where my wife is from... I don't get off-road at all anymore. I DO miss it. (Of course I miss my truck that I USED to have!) Maybe someday again!

Yeah I hear ya. I'm by no means an expert on body repair, I'm just doing some very minor rust repair. I am not a welder and don't have the equipment to even try, so I'm just doing some (hopefully longer than temporary) fiberglass patching with bondo on top. One thing is for certain, get ALL the rust out/off to be certain it doesnt continue it's course...it can be sneaky on the back sides that you cant see at first glance.
