Newbie from the north

Hi Guys and Gals, I'm new to the 4r scene (looking to buy a 99 or 00 limited) but i'm no stranger to toyotas. I currently drive a 7th gen Corolla with 403,000kms (250,000 miles) and my mother drove her 7th gen to over 625,000kms (388,000 miles) she now has a 9th gen with 330,000kms (205,000 milles). I also have 76 Landcruiser FJ40 in the yard awaiting a rebuilt.

Callum

Will do as soon as I get back home in 2 weeks (I work on rotation, 3 weeks on, 3 weeks off) and thanks for the link, I have actually read that thread 2 or 3 times now lol and I must say it is amazing, seriously it's extremely helpful especially with all the photos, information about years and trims and things to look out for when buying it's just amazing. I'll admit I've been sifting thru threads on this forum for about a month now, I was just on the fence whether to go with a tacoma or 4runner, so I wasn't sure if I was gonna be on the forum long enough to join, but I finally decided 4r, and seeing the awesome rigs everyones got including yours, that just sold me. I will be jumping on the first 99 or 00 limited I see with decently low mileage and I'll be sure to start a build thread.

Thanks again, Callum

Holy crap! That's some miles on those Corollas in your list. No need to sell you on the joys of Toyota owning that's for sure. How was the repair list on those? (I love hearing high-mile Toyota stories).

3rd gens are great, especially those years you're looking for. Although the springs on that age will probably be worn regardless a 99 will have higher springs than an 00 out of the box, but if you're upgrading anyways then probably doesn't really matter.

I drove my 96 for almost 7 years, loved it and still miss it a lot, I'm sure you'll enjoy.

Welcome from another canuck!

Yah no need to sell me on Toyota's, i'm already sold lol. As for repairs on the 7th gens, just the regular stuff for an old car, ball joints, exhaust, alternator, starter, suspension honestly nothing unusual, these cars are bullet proof...both original engine and trany which is amazing for mine cuz i've been bouncing it off the limiter, ripping gears regularly for the past 70,000kms, (i'm a bit immature behind the wheel lol) its burns a bit more oil than it use to but still runs great always starts even in -40 celcius...rust is really the only downfall.

As for the newer 9th gen, the only thing out of the ordinary was the front wheel bearings (which I felt, for a Toyota, should have lasted longer) and the odometer stop counting at 299,999kms but the dealer replaced it for free so its been fantastic as well. A lot of people say the newer models aren't as reliable, that might be true I dont know, this one has been great tho

Thanks im sure ill enjoy my 4r too! I do plan on lifting it so I wont let sagging springs turn me off a good deal, might be able to get the seller to lower the price cuz of it tho hehehe

Taker easy, and if shes easy taker twice lol

Callum
