4x4 Light stays on!!!HELP!!!!!

I just bought my first 4runner yesterday and the light stays on when I put it in 4x4. It keeps flashing. I don't think it is in 4x4 because it is not steady and keeps flashing. I have to pull up and back up and drive it a few miles and play with it and FINALLY IT CAME OUT. It is a 2001 Limited and has 160000 miles. Should I take it back? Is this common? will it cost me alot to fix? Other than that I love it. Feel like I have a great vehicle.
Thanks

Post this in the 3rd gen thread section.. this area is more to just introduce yourself.
You'll know if the truck is in 4wheel or not- it will feel tighter if that makes sense to you when its locked in. With the mult-imode system if the light remains flashing generally its not locked in. That's not something that's deal breaker unless there are other more serious issues with the truck. But... This is why its important to test the 4wheel system before you buy. My guess is the add on the front dif is just sticking- if you dont engage it often enough it will act up. Have you tried this multiple times? does it do that every time? Post your questions in the 3rd gen section so you can get more responses
Oh and since your new here- post up a pic of your truck and Welcome!
