Sacramento here as well, just joined. In the Arden/Arcade area. Would like to get out but really want to get bumpers and a locker before I do anything serious.

Pssh I still have running boards on. Go out and have fun and if/when you break stuff, THEN replace it.

Hey everyone,
I'm here to introduce myself. The name is Kyle, and the ride is a 2000 Limited. Like most, I've been lurking around for a while and reading a lot of good info.
Starting to work a bit more on the Runner, maintenance and repairs for now with 220k on the clock. It's a vehicle I've basically taken over from my girlfriend. We just moved to Fair Oaks last summer so in a way new to this area, but lived around here my whole life.
Anyways it's cool to see a group of you all in and around Sacramento. Thanks

NorCal seems to be the un-official 4Runner capitol of the world. So many on the roads here, especially in the foothills!
I have the exact same mileage so if you need any tips or help with repairs let me know. My next project is a bad wheel bearing...

Thanks Jerod. I hear you on the unofficial capitol for sure. 4runners are all over the place around these parts. As well they should be!
I am familiar with the foothills, as that is where I grew up and lived most recently.
Unfortunately I am now an apartment resident and have no space to work or any of my tools (what few I do have) here with me. I am relegated to driving the 45 minutes to my mom's house where I can do my work. I appreciate the offer on tips/help and I may take you up on that as I see you are close by.
This weekend I think I am going to attempt rack bushings, and front and rear sway bar/endlink bushings. I also have a set of the blue shifter bushings for under the console and would like to get those in as well. After that, perhaps in a few weeks, I'm thinking rack guide and PS flush with removal of the PS reservoir.

That was my first toyota. Although it had the 3.slow engine... it threw a check engine light pretty much every other week. I miss the truck but not working on it! Hopefully you have the 22-RE.

No. 3.0
Most of my 4Runner's and pickups have had the 3.0 and have never had a issue with that motor. The few 22RE's ive had have blown head gaskets and rod bearings.

They all have the head gasket issues, which is a bummer. Luckily I never had to deal with that issue, the the owner before me did.

Sacramento suspension shop?
Hey all - I recently moved to Sac and don't yet have my garage set up. Looking for a recommended shop that can do a suspension kit install (coilovers, UCAs, rear shocks) for my 5th gen runner.
Any suggestions around the midtown (and nearby) areas?

Welcome!
Sadly, no I dont... I had a local dealer (Folsom Lake Toyota) do my lift when they were doing some other major maintenance; they did OK... but I dont think I would give them a strong endorsement...they just happen to fit a need at a particular time.
I know there are several shops around though (Stellar Built, Califabrication, CATuned Off-Road, Hot Metal Fab, Hunter's, S&H to name a few). Ive heard good things about Stellar Built, but havent used them. I have limited experience with Califabrication; Chance did my body mount chop. He got me in quick and gave me a reasonable price and the work looks good, so Im happy with it. I imagine he could do your install...
Best of luck finding a place. Post up what you decide and your experience... I am sure several of us would be interested to know.
Thanks

I do not recommend Califab, he did a sas on my buddies rig and the pinion angle is completely messed up and he said he won't fix it. I've heard from many people he cut's corners on customer job's but not his own build.
However i have never used him, i just know the work he did on my buddies sas and it was hacked and need's to be completely redone.

Are you in a White 3rd gen? Or... a black 4th gen?

The best shop would be your garage.
