Total newbie at Hollister Hills, bad idea?

Hey folks,

I'm thinking about a casual *solo* stop at Hollister Hills SVRA on my way south this weekend, and based on the trail maps there appears to be a nice stretch of green/easy to get me acquainted.

Me: No off-roading experience in a car whatsoever. I've done some dirt biking and a lot of mountain biking, though, so I'm a little familiar with how some OHV parks and state parks are.

Car: Completely bone stock trail edition 5th gen 4r with factory Dueller HT tires. I've got a recovery strap, shackles, and tire repair kit.

Is this a bad idea? I'm guessing the green trails are intended for true newbies, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks!
Mike

While I think you can do the greens, if you some reason you get stuck or screw up your ride, you'll have to wait for someone to help you out. Phone service is kind of spotty for some, though ham and cb work very well. Some of the others up there would help you out, but that means cutting into their fun time.

You should know your and your trucks capabilities fairly well.

Overall, I would wait for a group outing and then you will have all the backup, willingness and experience you need. The green routes are pretty easy, but there could be all sort of problems that show up.

Disclaimer: I have and can get myself out of trouble almost as fast as I can get into it, also my woman gentle reminds me with her kind words like " you're not going up that F*ck*ng hill are you?" I grew up four wheeling and part of my service was driving off road.

I hope this helps.

Thanks a lot for your response -- it's probably the last thing I wanted to hear, but may be the best advice I could've received

I may just allow myself to get a brief glimpse inside the park, get an idea of what I'm in for, and maybe get a closer look at that obstacle course... but not much more instead.
