Desolation Wilderness / Tahoe?

Hey all, I want to take my Runner off road in and around Desolation Wilderness.
I'm not ready for the Rubicon (no sliders, etc) but can handle easy to moderate trails. I'm looking for recs...

If one wanted to mild/moderate off road into the Desolation Wilderness, and then hike a bit to setup a camp, any suggestions? Prederably to a secluded lake!

Much appreciated!
Rob

Barrett Lake might be what you're looking for. Not a ton of options around Desolation.

Taking the boat across Echo Lake and hiking to Aloha is a pretty cool experience, but it's all paved to the parking lot where you catch the boat.

It's a cool spot. If you want someplace to yourself, climb up Horse Tail Falls from Hwy 50. It's a ball busting climb, but the lakes at the top are like a little piece of paradise, and far fewer people go in that way.
