tips, trails, places to go near Bishop

Hi guys, I'm from SoCal but heading up to Bishop in beginning of June. Wanting to get the "Guide to California Backroads" for some trail suggestions around this area.

I'm looking for EASY trails, nothing crazy. I'll be up there for a sports event and wanting to take an extra day to just explore around and take pictures of the scenery.

Any tips and trails would be greatly appreciated!!

We went out to Bishop for the first time last summer for a few days. We spent one day taking Silver Canyon Rd from Laws up to the ancient Bristlecones. It's not a technical trail, just rather steep. We ended up spending longer than anticipated checking out the Bristlecones, and took the road down off the mountains and back into town.

Next time we're out that way though I'd like to take Wyman Creek Rd down off the mountain.

Around Bishop...
Silver Canyon Road + Wyman Canyon Trail in East Bishop.
Volcano Tablelands + Casa Diablo + Red Rock Canyon in North Bishop.
Buttermilks + Coyote Flats in West Bishop.

For convenience, I'd go Bishop -> Silver Canyon Road, down Wyman Canyon, since it'll shoot you south. That said, it's quite a long route... but at least it shoots you south.

For Scenery in the mountains, I'd say Coyote Flats, but the swtichbacks going up Coyote Flats aren't for the weak hearted.. and it's quite long. Buttermilks would be my next choice.

For desert like/ancient(hieroglyphs)scenery i'd go Volcano Tablelands + Red Rock Canyon, but it'll throw you back out to Tom's Place.
