Hi everyone. So, I recently inherited my dads ‘97 4Runner a few months ago and was excited to find this thread. I’m in the Sacramento/Elk Grove area divide. Been lurking on here to figure out my own mods after seeing everyone’s beautiful trucks. Unfortunately, I’m not going to be doing any overlanding so my mods won’t be as comparable as most of y’all. It’s going to be my DD with light camping. But I do get extremely giddy when I see some of those magnificent beasts from time to time during my work commute.
This is my treasured beauty. In all of her faded, stellar blue glory. At first, I focused on aesthetic interior stuff like LED bulb replacements. Then realized I should do all the preventative maintenance after more research. Goodies can come later, safety first. Besides the LBJs, everything else was a DIY after checking out everyone’s posts. Seemed easy enough.
What I’ve done so far;
-LBJ replacement
-Bulb interior bulb replacements (I swapped my dash lights to blue. I know, I know, to some it may be trashy, but I see just fine and I love it.
-Swapped CD changer for a dash pocket (I think that’s what it’s called. The changer system under the seat has long since broke and with the age of Bluetooth, I just pulled out the unit altogether)
-Front speaker upgrade
-Cloth seats from a local junkyard (the leather in the front and rear was ripped beyond repair)
What I have planned;
-shocks and struts
-hose replacements
-UBJs
-timing belt
-possibly a new starter.
I’m still doing my research since I’m new to this world. The truck is sitting at 410k and still runs decently smooth. There’s some sagging here and there, but it hasn’t been an issue as of yet. I still drive carefully. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I’m off of work tomorrow and thinking about taking off the running boards.
