Pretty Dissapointed with OEM Audio + Reference 500 system

Just thought i would drop this in here for anyone else debating the purchase of OEM Audio + Systems.

I ordered this system on November 17th 2021. Due to "Covid" you have to acknowledge a 30 day lead time on their website. Fair enough. i ordered their full kit which includes: 2 new tweeters, 4 new components speakers for all 4 doors, 2 new component speakers for the rear hatch, and their dual subwoofer option, with dedicated subwoofer amp.

This was a gift for my wife for Christmas. I was told the kit would arrive by Christmas eve. They ended up having some other "Production" issues, and basically shipped me only the component speakers. no subs, no amps, no wiring. just the speakers. I was also told a personalized video would be made explaining the situation, and wishing my wife a Merry Christmas (Which never happened).

On January 17th i was told the remainder of my kit was shipping. So, both amps, both subs, and all the wiring.

The packages arrived a few days later, so i got started. i began to do inventory of the items, and was missing the splitter harness for the passenger side sub. So after informing the company, i left the passenger side sub in the box, and continued on with the driver side.

After opening the driver side sub box i noticed some damage to the sub enclosure. the fiberglass was cracked, and the paint chipped. Everything was packaged extremely well. So i dont think it happened during shipping, rather at their facility prior to leaving. So again, contacted the company and was told to return the driver side sub, and send pictures so they could make a UPS claim.

Few days later i received the splitter harness i needed for the passenger side sub. I was happy to finally experience some sound in the 4runner... So i got everything ready, and dropped in the sub. The passenger side sub comes with a both to secure the enclosure to the truck to avoid rattling. You simply have to remove the actual sub from the enclosure, and insert this bolt through the box. WELL, 2 of the screws holding the sub into the box were stripped!! They simply use a self tapping screw into the fiberglass enclosure, and someone at the factory had obviously overtightened these, stripping the holes out.

In addition, the passenger side sub has an opening so you can remount the factory outlet. the fitment was less than desirable, and i can see this "popping" out when playing music loud.

All in all, after spending almost $3,000 on this system i am extremely disappointed with the quality of work provided, so much so that i question the entire durability of the whole set up. i have not yet received comments from OEM Audio + regarding the second sub, but i am getting to the point of asking for a refund, so i can spend my money elsewhere.

Either someone rushed my entire system causing all of these errors, or they have terrible quality control, because i have never had to deal with such a mess with any products i have purchased in the past.

Get rid of it. I bought focal speakers. Audio control dsp amp and sub. For almost the same price and sounds 100 times better than overpriced oem audio crap. You can get quality equipment for much less

Agreed. For $3,000 I would expect to have one of the best car audio systems money can buy.

In a previous life, I had a full McIntosh system (head unit, amps and speakers) in another car, and it did not cost me $3,000. (With inflation, it might be close to $3,000 in today’s dollars.) It sounded better than most home audio systems. 100W RMS x4 and 200W RMS x1 (for sub) amps with only .005% thd. Not a typo, .005%. Many car amps are close to 1% thd at rated power. Even brands like Alpine and Polk Audio are around .1% thd at rated power.

Yep. just waiting to see what they say/offer with this mess. but i am strongly leaning towards asking for a refund, and just spending the money on a nice suspension set up, or some sliders.

I went with the audio route to make it a nicer place to be for my wife. but at this point the wife is just going to have to accept this, and live with me lifting it lol.

Well. to conclude. i am sending back the entire sound system from OEM Audio Plus.

After the multiple issues with their system i am no longer interested in using their products. So far i have been told a full refund will be issued once the products have been returned to them, and inspected. Minus the original shipping of course.

Currently looking at some RRW wheels, and hopefully a Bilstein lift in the near future!
