personally I love it, the sound from it is awesome. Zero emission smells or noticeably even with the charcoal filter removed and a high flow K&N filter. no matter if the engine runs for long trips and sits or just sits for countless nights waiting on parts lol.
as far as the effects of the cabin under increased negative air pressure zero issues. Recently I pulled my rear cargo panels, cargo shelf, and carpet. also had the rear bench seat folded down and I could hear the air flow coming from the rear of the truck back at the vents. I can say there was perhaps more dust and dirt on the underside of the cargo panels than normally would be there but it's a non-issue to me.
only negativity I can conclude is the snorkel's effectiveness is limited to the door seals remaining sealed. If the truck were to flood well there goes your snorkel; however, if water has gotten there you've got way more problems than some water in your engine.

I know all about flooding my truck. The seals don't hold up too well.. :/

I was meaning to ask you how well your door seals held as well as how deep you were. I've been through a pond up to my door handles and not had major issues when I pulled my door panels there was a small leak from where i had removed and reinstalled the plastic sheet that closes off the window lift mechanics. and i quickly noticed my back gate wasn't sealing as all the carpet back there had become saturated.

Went up to the hood with the bow wave. Probably to the window on the passenger side. I got a trickle of water on the top of the carpet. Took the door sill panels out and there was water. Ended up removing the carpet to find a LOT of sand there, and I was only in for about 30 seconds.
Definitely something I don't want to do again.

right on, any pics of the truck going through? Since I've installed a snorkel ironically I've found myself venturing less an less towards water and mud. I've had to replace the idler pulley, fan clutch, three wheel bearings, rear third member and front passenger side caliper. all were lost to water or mud damage. I've lost a tail light to rock crawling, oh and a driver side mirror glass lol I've found more interest in rock crawling haha.

Nope no pics of me
Here's my buddy's FJ. I got further in than that, so you can tell that thing is DEEP. I was all the way in with my doors about parallel with that tree near the bank.
His FJ is taller than my truck
An F-150 that went swimming and got like 5" of water inside
I didn't think it was that bad... If only I knew then.. Haha. I forgot all about the carpet padding and such. It absorbed a LOT of water!

So would you recommend the internal snorkel or the outer snorkel (if you don't have a problem with the appearance of the outer safari snorkel)? Not that I plan on sinking my t4r up to the roof or anything... But just a snorkel for piece of mind when out playing.

If you don't mind the look or price of a safari style snorkel I'd go that rout.
I decided to use this method because A.) it was cheap I had most of the parts in my garage. and B.) If I want to remove it I don't have to purchase a new front right fender i can just plate weld the inner fender and patch the holes. I can't say adding this item has made me want to see how deep i can go in a water crossing situation but its given me plenty of peace of mind to run through just about anything I've come across.

I think the door seals would hold up decently to standing water, probably a little more so if you put some compressible foam tubing the hollow of the seals to add more pressure when the door closes to create a tighter seal. The problem is that just because the door openings are sealed doesn't mean the rest of the vehicle is going to be sealed. for example that little trim panel on the OUTSIDE edge of the door has holes into the body as does numerous other sections of the vehicle.
I had been toying with the idea of eventually stripping the entire body down to bare steel and sealing up everyting up to the window edge (as that will be the most difficult portion to effectively seal from outside water.) But the amount of work and effort required to do something like that would be monumentous and I don't know how effective it would be in waters close to hood level as again you have things such as the cowl, window glass moulding, ventilation holes. I also was unable to judge effectively how well the vent flap at the rear of the vehicle would hold up to water pressure from the outside. As you seem to have already shown, that flap is meant as a flimsy one way check valve to help dissapate pressure inside the vehicle, but even minor negative pressure seems to negate its protection from the outside.

yep once you dive deeper than your rear cabin vents (well the level plain of your cargo floor the metal not the interior decking) your pretty much taking on water.
if that's only for a brief moment your probably fine however if your sitting there stuck.. well as I said before you'd have more problems than water inside your intake
the stock intake itself does a decent job of avoiding contact with water aside from bow waves that may splash enough water into the inner fender.
Personally I like my internal snorkel it sounds cool a lot of women seem to like it lol and it def adds a defense against water from entering the intake. I have yet to regret doing it. when I'm driving normal it's not even there. if I go to pass a car man it just opens up lol ill have to get a recording on here if I can come up with one worth a shit

As I've tried to say I would do so many times finally here is a video you can watch and listen in on the sound the internal snorkel produces.
internal snorkel sound - YouTube
It shows different RPM ranges, speeds, variations of getting on an off the throttle as well as just cruising at normal speeds.
took the video on the way home from work hope it answers any questions you may have.
yeah the inside of my truck is as muddy as the outside so what...

Can I just say that sounds actually amazing. I would do it just for the sound it makes.
Oh and you missed a little spot of mud on your dash....haha

yeah it's really not annoying at all when cruising you barely realize its there unless your listening for it or the radio's off. Also Everyone that's ridden in the truck has really enjoyed it. I've had multiple comments like "that sounds awesome", "is that a turbo?" (lol), "what is that?" lol
