I'm planning on getting the dealer to change my rear diff oil for the first time since putting on the extended breather next week, I'll let you know how it goes. I'm think they'll be ok with it, since NCSCOTT has brought his to the same dealer I go to with the carbon filter removed and they didn't say anything.

Let us know how it goes. I plan on ordering my union fitting sometime soon and i am almost ready for my 30,000 mile service. I am thinking of doing the mod and changing the diff fluids and t-case myself though.

Parts availability

I was at the dealership for service today and while waiting I inquired about the parts for this mod:

Toyota Part # 90404-51319 - Union Fitting
Toyota Part # 90930-03136 - Breather Plug

Much to my surprise the clerk at the Parts counter informed me that these parts are no longer available.

Can someone confirm availability of these parts?

Thank you.

I bought mine online, had to pay shipping though which was close to the price of the parts.

Try Partznet.com. I ran a search and they have them for $6.11 for the union and $2.96 for the breather.

I used, Toyota Parts at toyotapartszone.com: Toyota Accessories, Toyota Auto Parts shipping is expensive though.

Just got out of the dealer and got my rear diff oil changed along with an oil change (I know I should learn to do my own). They didn't say anything about the extended breather I had and they were right next to it.

That is good to know. I still haven't ordered the union fitting or done this mod but i will soon.

3/16/2010
ordered union fitting from Toyota.

3/20/2010
installed rear breather using union fitting / old cap breather / 3/8 ID fuel Hose. I extended it up to the gas tank. Very easy to do and i am glad that i did it.

I just ordered both parts, using the part numbers provided. Both parts toyota has and will have them to me in the morning. I am going to install this weekend.

Hope this helps,

Why even attach the breather? If you got water up to your gas tank cover you would prob. have more issues than changing your diff. fluid? Maybe I am missing something?

So did my 3rd gen., but i didn't put a breather at the end of the extension - not sure what the need is? I assume since all you guys did there must be a reason, but what is the need for the breather if it's already up that high?

I didn't either. (I assume you mean the stock check valve OE breather.) I stuck a cheap, fuel filter in the hose just to have some dust protection. I don't remember what I used but it's like the Fram G2. I don't like the idea of a check valve causing suction in the axle as it cools.

Agreed, I think the breather is useless unless somebody can tell me otherwise?
