The Lost Coast, Usal Road

560 mile round trip to see the absolute most beautiful scenery in my life with my best friend. We originally wanted to do the whole thing, but apparently, everything was locked up which prevented us from further exploration. We will go back after they open it up, but here's some pictures.

Photobucket sucked the life out of your pics. Jeez, they must hate resolution.

OP
@024RunnerSE

Do you have info on this trip as far as routes or gpx files? Even just trail names? I really want to do this trip.

Awesome photos. I did the same trip in 1997 driving my 1974 Bronco and absolutely loved it. I still think about it all these years later, your photos stirred some memories.

When I took this trip all I had was a road map from a gas station. There weren't trails that were really difficult. Now with google earth you can do a lot of recon before you head out.

Might want to make sure this isn't one of the areas affected by mudslides. I know this past winter destroyed some popular offroad routes North to South on the coast.

I did this trail this weekend, south to north. There were a *lot* of people at the beach, pretty sure the campground was full. Road to the campground is ok for passenger cars. After the campground it isn't difficult, but I wouldnt do it in a passenger car. There are some pretty good ruts but they are all easily negotiated in a 4runner. I had a hitch rack with a mountain bike and never scraped it. I didn't realize it but it is paved after the needle rock turnoff. There are a couple of easy dirt sections between Needle rock and Tolkan campground. One thing to note is that there are no views after the Usal beach, but still, not a bad way to go if you are heading towards Shelter Cove.
