I did this trail this weekend, south to north. There were a *lot* of people at the beach, pretty sure the campground was full. Road to the campground is ok for passenger cars. After the campground it isn't difficult, but I wouldnt do it in a passenger car. There are some pretty good ruts but they are all easily negotiated in a 4runner. I had a hitch rack with a mountain bike and never scraped it. I didn't realize it but it is paved after the needle rock turnoff. There are a couple of easy dirt sections between Needle rock and Tolkan campground. One thing to note is that there are no views after the Usal beach, but still, not a bad way to go if you are heading towards Shelter Cove.
