Okay a quick question.

If I wanted to mount 16" rims on my Limited 06... would it be possible just to swap out the larger rotors/calipers for the smaller SR5 version?

Is this a simple thing? Super Expensive?
Since I hear the performance isn't very different, I thought this might be a solution.

I've heard people say that the Limiteds also come with the bigger front brakes, but I've seen nothing to confirm it.

It's easy to swap out rotors and calipers if you know what you're doing. Get a FSM, Haynes or Chiltons to help you if you've never done it before. I don't know if the components would swap over but I'd guess they would.

I believe the 04+ LTD's came with larger brakes and only the 03 LTD were the same as the 03 SR5.

With that in mind, swapping rotors and calipers are pretty easy for an average wrencher. Just purchase the Toyota Service Manual (TSM) from ebay (I've seen em as low as 100 bucks shipped for vol 1 and 2) and do the swap. Check out Toyota junk yards for parts and go from there.

It does take some labor but any qualified person can do this easily. Since you're planning to do the suspension upgrade, you might try to do the disc/caliper swap at the sametime. I know Jason can do this with no problems so long as the parts are available so look into that option.

Come to think about it, ask Jason if he has spare parts (I think he may) so you may be able to swap it with the smaller disc/calipers.

I asked this question over at the Expedition Forum as well, and it was speculated that changing the rotor/calipers to a different size may be a problem with the ABS, Traction Control, Speedo and other sensors.

I don't want to be afraid to try it if it won't cause a problem, but it would be great to know for sure that it won't break anything.

If anyone knows an expert on the subject let me know!

From my understanding this should not be a problem. If you think about it, there are kits to add larger rotors and calipers with no ill effect on the sensors so going smaller should be no problem too. If you want, you can check out my smaller rotor/caliper and do a quick comparison.

Really? I thought only the Sport had the larger brakes. Guess it's true that you learn something new every day! :arrow:

That was the change I think I read somewhere in their user manual. I know the LTD's do come with the 13.3" rotors but unclear as when it changed (maybe midseason of the 03's?)

I'm sure someone will chime in with the 04 LTD, 05 LTD and give us an exact timeframe when this changed

You can't fit 16" wheels if you have the bigger brakes. That is why SR5's come standard with 16" wheels and the Sports come standard with 17" wheels.

I want to know if the calipers hit the wheel's spokes or the rim? I've never seen someone test fit 16" over the bigger brakes and show the contact. It is close in both areas with 17". I have seen people shave calipers to get bigger brakes to fit.

On my sport edition runner, I can barely get my finger between the caliper and the inside edge of the rim. It is very close in there.
