Technique for driving up STEEP slippery incline

Hi all! I found myself moving nowhere when I tried to tackle a steep incline. My tires were at 21PSI, I was in 4-LO with ATRAC on and I kept spinning wheels... I guess I should have came in a bit faster? Could some of you guys share your techniques while trying to tackle a similar situation?

What kind of slippery?

Only had experience with sand/gravel on hardpack kind of slippery. But yeah if the going is relatively smooth, speed/momentum will get you through where trying to crawl may just end up with you spinning tires.

Also for dry slippery, lower tire pressure to 15 lbs will help a lot over 21.

This may apply for mud as well. If it is like snow/ice slippery then I personally have no experience ;)

This is going to sound dumb, but I really have no clue. It had rained/snowed a couple days prior to my attempt... If it was dry it would have been hard packed dirt. I guess it was slippery wet dirt/ gravelish... Not quite muddy... Gosh I'm clueless haha

it really depends on a few different things,

but typically you need more speed.
in fact, 4H may have worked better.

Yeah sounds like airing down more for a bigger footprint and then hitting it with some speed (as long as the terrain/safety allowed it) would help a lot. Been up several hills where trying to crawl up it would just spin the tires, but getting a good head start at the bottom would get you through no problem.

Then again, there are limits The runner is rather heavy. Lot of weight to lift up a steep slippery slope!

No amount of speed would get me up this the other day, soft sand. I had to get pulled up and out. aired down and everything.

He went back to a connecting trail and around to the front, actually, two trucks went back, one got stuck enroute since he blew a locking hub and the second truck had to turn around and go find yet another way to me. Couldnt get pulled up backwards because the way down was worse than the way up.

Moral of the story is, never wheel alone. We dont ever attempt anything we arent fully capable of recovering from, and we usually walk and discuss new obstacles before the first vehicle even attemps.
