Highlift Jack?

Hey,

I've purchased the Yakima load-warrior and high-lift jack mount, was about to buy my high-lift jack and realized I may have jumped the gun.

I have a 2014 SR5 stock, so stuck bumpers/wheel-wells. Is this thing basically useless to me unless I have modded body gear? or is there a way around it?

Thanks,

In general that's true, you usually need a slider or metal bumper to jack up.

One thing you can get though is an adapter that allows you to jack up using your wheel. It has a couple of hooks that go around a couple of your wheel spokes and allows you to lift that wheel off the ground to get sand/rocks/traks or whatever under it. http://www.hi-lift.com/accessories/lift-mate.html

Once you have sliders which you should have for doing any offroading that might involve something other than sand, you can jack using those...

Check out the Liftmate. It'll lift the truck by the wheels, if there's openings in the wheels large enough for the hooks. If you're feeling thrifty, you can do the same thing with a ratchet strap around the tire or hooked to the wheel openings, make sure it's a hefty one. Either way, you'll need to improvise a jackstand (or pack one) to keep the truck in the air if you intend to change the tire you're lifting. Most guys with stock/mildly lifted trucks just pack a crib of 2x4s or some such to use under the stock bottle jack.

You can winch with your hilift too, it's not as nice as an electric or hydro winch but it's better than nothing. You can assemble a set of chains and hooks and such to do that with, or check out the ORK if you want a packaged solution for that too.

Go ahead and buy the hilift, it's got a million uses and is a pretty basic part of your offroad kit.

Thanks, I've been shopping sliders, looks like a spendy but needed element. Suggestions? I'm in the Portland area.

I'd rather lift with the liftmate than lift from my sliders. It is quite stable but you are still using a hi-lift, caution is a must.

@Mietsko

Also, do yourself a favor and spend a few more bucks on the 60in. It might be bigger to lug around but when it comes time for you to use it you will thank yourself.

Another useful investment is the off-road base. Many uses for this thing on the trails. And beats the 2x4 block of wood you might use for your normal driveway jacking.

Can anyone confirm whether the liftmate works well in the stock Pro wheels? I want to get one for use on my 19pro.

if you don't need to remove the tire/wheel then lifting the wheel is actually more stable since you have to lift it less high. when you lift from a slider you have to lift higher than the suspension droop before you raise a wheel, but when you lift from the wheel it comes right up.

so if you are stuck and your goal is to lift the vehicle and stack rocks under the tire, then the wheel straps are helpful and can be more stable, but lifting from the wheel means you can't use your hi-lift to change a tire or do things like jack the vehicle over an obstacle and drive off the high lift

it's worth noting that the factory jack still works offroad if you need to stack rocks, and also if you're doing offroading serious enough to need a hi-lift you should really get some sliders
