Elephant Hill and Needles

Hey all,

Just had a great time in Canyonlands National Park here in Utah thanks to all the people and information here on T4R.

The prep:
- Hit my 60k mark and changed all my fluids using Amsoil.
(Had zero chatter or binding using all sorts of computer aided and manual settings on the hill and surrounding area.)
- removed my step rails (first trip in tis type of terrain and intermediate wheeler). would have bent one for sure, but people do it with lower clearance and stock etc. without problems.
- Installed 3" toytech spacer into my x-reas last oct. for a white rim sag trip
- water, food, etc. no fuel needed. Unless leaving the park another way (much longer etc)
- also coated my old rusty thule roof rack with a brush on Herculiner HCL1B8 Brush-on Bed Liner Kit. (to hold the raft better :-)

Drove 4 hours from home to the trailhead with a stop on moab - there is an expedition shop with free filtered water. So rad of them, so we buy a few things:-)

The Elephant hill into devil kitchen took us about 1.5 to 2 hours, but again I'm slow and was learning. out took less :-).

If I had more suspension travel I would have been able to articulate better, but wasn't needed. The computer did the work with centerline diff lock engaged (send power to front and rear equally) and only minor rocking occurred. I'll replace once the x-reas starts to fail (does it?).

I found down the back of Elephant hill more fun than up the front side, but they are all good.
What the map won't tell you:
There could be some waiting if its busy as it is mostly one way. Passing is cool on top, and bottom, so scope for others before getting into a "now i have to back out of this" type situation.
There are some overhangs that could strip a bike or larger rack setups or tests (both on the hill and on devils lane (trees).

questions?

Gearheads is cool with the free filtered water, I use them all the time and I normally buy some sunscreen or cliff bars to say thanks. That's about all I buy though, because everything else they've got is catered to tourists and priced accordingly. Get half that shit at half the price here in Salt Lake.

Totally agree!

Oh hey on another note - anyone have advice on setting up solar on a rooftop hardcore or rooftop tent?
