Hey guys, I didn't want this thread to get lost out there as so many often do. The last we talked
@ BackOff
@ GhostRing
were ready to hit some trails in the Bend area and tip a few beers. You guys never reported back!! Hope it happened.
So I'll be heading out to the Overland West Expo in May. I'll either join a caravan from a few of the guys from PDX Overlanders up here or branching off and going through Yellowstone, Moab, Zion and Grand Canyon on the way to Flagstaff or on the way back. A lot depends on what my buddy from Georgia is doing. He's either transporting his JK or driving here and back. I'll let you know how that turns out.
Anyway, the dates for the OBDR are Wednesday July 5th (All meet that evening). Begin driving on the 6th - the 14th. That's a few extra days to do 750 plus miles if we do Route 5. California to the Oregon/Wa border. When I did the WABDR I averaged about 120 a day with a few short days in there.
Let me know if the dates work for you guys. We still need to get together during a weekend and go wheeling a bit and get to know each other. Compatibility is pretty important. January is pretty busy for me with a HAM Cram next weekend and an Overland meeting on the 29th.
I'm thinking maybe Presidents day weekend if you guys are free. Enjoy the snow and go rescue some of these ridiculous drivers! Someone is going to providing beer!! I read that in a post!

Hey Rock_Rat I would be into wheeling with you at some point.
Has been a little action around Bend.
BlackWorksInc and I hit Edison...that was an adventure. 10 miles in 5 hours. FUN! I blame GhostRing for that...J/K, lol...was fun/intense.
Central Oregon Off-Road Day (Around Bend, OR)
Then shearn and I made it to Cline Butte OHV for a quick hour play. He had a week old runner and work so we played all mellow.
I love the Baker City area, been trying to buy land out there for some time now...greedy realtors are grabbing up everything and jacking the price 200-300%...that's capatalizim for ya!
Not into partying...mellow and quiet is the way I like it.
Insane snow this year may keep a lot of the high county off limits till mid to late June. IMO.
I would be into about 4-5 days more than that gets to be troublesome for me.
Have not been to the coast since the late 1990's so that would be fun for me...but however you decide I can meet up for some of it.

I'd be interested probably in the first few days, running CA border north.

I'm interested for some of it,but have recently lost a family member and personal issues.
I've done a few years of this now so would like to say I am fairly knowledgeable in regards to this, but don't call myself an expert at all. We normally get up, grab a small/quick breakfast and hit the road by 730/8am and drive til 6pm. On average we do about 100 miles and that includes stopping and seeing sights. I can send you my driving reports for route 3 last year and previous year from the routrs show how long we drove, avg speed etc...good information. Average speed is 30ish, 7 hours and 30 minutes drive time. I love doing these and would love to get to know more people that want to do this. We go out wheeling at least a month (snow, exploring etc). My father does the more extreme, I don't. ..medical, but I can do a lot, just no crushers, waterfall , seven up and such at Browns camp as an example.
Not to hijack the post but we are doing three overland trips this year and atm 4 next year confirmed. .lol.
June 15th-17th (father's day weekend ) - route 6 from i5 to the coast and back.
August 20-26th - Steens Mountain overland explore
September 9-20th - Ouray, CO. Never been but driving and my father is trailering his rig. Plan is to do day trips from a central spot, atm. I wanted to drive camp, but we all have to adjust. ..
2018, king of the hammers / moab to overland expo in Flagstaff
. Expedition Overland did this last year I believe / moab east (300 miles of trail) and 2019+ Oregon trail (you can supposedly do life 75%, talked to a guy two years ago about it, takes 2 months roughly) / Canada trails ;)

Can't commit but I am watching this thread. Been eyeing the discovery routes for a while and I might be able to swing a July trip.
Side topic (and not meaning to thread derail) but we (Tamarack Media Co) are hosting our annual Colossal event Sept 23-26th, 2017. Starting point will be Nelson BC, Canada which isnt that far from all of you (assuming your in Oregon or Washington). Take advantage of the Canadian dollar and come check it out!
Full details released in the coming days.

I liked the clip. Looking good. Not sure if I can make it as I have a lot planned this year. Still planning the Overland Trip to Flagstaff then I'll be planning this one. Family are visiting for week the first week in October so I'll be working on "honey do's", remodeling, decorating, etc.

Just returned from the Overland West Expo and it's now time to start planning heavily for the upcoming OBDR trip. How does a meet and greet THIS weekend sound to everyone? Run a trail or so together in an agreed location. I'm open.
Plans are for a small group of around five or so. A few may want to join in on a leg or two. I think South to North is the preferred direction but all optional routes are open for discussion. Dates would be the days right after July 4th.
Once everyone responds, I'll put together an email group. Not everyone has an FB account.

@ Rock_Rat
- I would love to do a meet and greet but this weekend I'm packing and prepping for Alvord Desert from the 9th through the 18th. I would still like to swing by (depending on where & time) but may not run any trails as I would need to High-Tail it out to get back.
Whats your plan in regards to the trails? Depending on the day I may be able to run anything (but not going to stress the rig since i'm doing the Desert Trip next week.)
I'll PM you my e-mail since I currently don't use that Face???, MyFace?, umm oh yeah Facebook :P

I work weekends so I can't make it this weekend without more notice.
I'll continue to monitor the thread and should be able to do at least 2 days after the 4th.

would love to make it but the timing just isn't going to work for me. I might be in the Bend area between 6/30-7/4 though, but have to head back home after that.
You coming up for the NW Overland Rally?

I completely understand on the timing. Unfortunately, I can't make it to the NW Overland Rally due to work. Just can't break away on Thursday and Friday. My only option would be a day trip on Saturday but having just come back from the Overland West Expo in Flagstaff, it's highly unlikely I'll head up to the rally this time around. Next year...
