how in the world did you blow out your rear diff? in any case if you couldn't warranty it (not sure why they would not if you are well under the standard 60k drivetrain warranty (i believe it's 60k) you can get any 8" Toyota rear diff that can go up to 5.29. (same diff as the 3rd gen 4runner 96-02)

I highly recommend going with precision gear if at all possible.

good luck!

edit:
this only apples to you because you have a 2wd system. 4wd system is slightly different as there are no front gears available in the mass market.

4.88...??? What for? I got my stock gears with 33". I think they are 3.9. I can think of 4.11. Some people in toyota120 forum are looking for 4.56 to give the room for 35" in the future. 4.88 looks like too much for 4Runner unless you planning 35-38" tires and/or very hard off-roading with a lot of gear.

i had trac off and was spinning only the r/r wheel and when it hooked up on the dirt under the snow and ice... i turned trac off because it was going crazy when it was on and i would just keep on sliding down hill. so i thought about turning it off and that's when it happened. i sheared off 3/4 of the ring and cracked the pinion. the good thing is, the dealer covered it under powertrain warranty.

as far as 4.88 i was just advised by a friend that thats what he thought i needed to run to correct my speedo. i really don't know what ratio i need. 4.11 sounds a little better than 4.88 though. thanks for the input.
