Welcome to Winston. Been here a few years now and love the town more and more each day! I'm also looking to break in my 4runner and have stumbled onto the Hurricane Creek Trail near Asheville while poking around the web. Give it a google and see what you think!

Sounds great- thanks! Any idea if you can get to it in the winter or would I need to wait until OHV trails in Pigsah open or be wary of any closures on the blue ridge parkway

Not too sure on this one. I think it's basically a public road. At least the first portion provides accesses to some private property. My guess is that it remains open but the weather determines if you're really gonna make it all the way or not. If you wind up going in the winter, post back here to let us know how it went!

In my search for places to go offloading, I noticed that someone mentioned that Hurricane Creek was closed due to abuse. Anyone else heard this?

Quote from overlandbound.com on 12/27/19
Signs posted as of mid November. State is closing the road due to misuse, destruction and trash. Will eventually be taken over by the Park Service as elk habitat.

Yesterday I went to Max Patch and explored some side roads off TN109. It was fun despite the heavy rain. I did a few river crossings and one technical uphill bolder/rock climb. My rig did great even with the stock Bridgestones. I’m loving my new 4Runner.

Thanks for making this detailed thread.

I'm moving back to Charleston, SC in the first of July and will be running up to NC/GA/TN monthly. I've done Uwharrie, Windrock, parts of the Traverse, but these look fun. If anyone wants to plan some trips in September/October/November I am 100% interested.

I tried to go up Curtis Creek Rd today to get to the BRP but they had the road closed near the campground. So I backtracked and hit 80N. When we got to Lake Tohoma I found a side road that followed the lake for a bit then ended up on a forest road that ran along a creek that had several camping spots. All in all a good day exploring Pisgah Forest.
