Valley of the Moon San Diego

Going to go see how well the 2018 trd premium handles the trail out there. Did a little prerun in my Ford Escape(it’s a glorified minivan), and by prerun I mean parked and walked the rest when it got too much. I think 4Runner will make it though. Wish me luck.

Made it out there and back without too much issue. Just banged up the factory engine skid a bit. The trail is a bit hairy in a few places for a stock vehicle but it goes.

Cool! Got any pics? I haven't been out there in years. Last time I went, I could only get as far as the hill with all the old mines. The route into Valley of the Moons was totally impassible.

My brother and I backpacked through there once, way back in 1981. At that time there was still fresh, drinkable, spring water in the tank at the east end of the valley.

Didn’t take any pics. Saw a few other jeeps going through the area, quite a few mountain lion tracks, and one yoked out Tacoma on what seemed like 35” tires. We checked out Elliot mine up on the hill by the fork, my wife freaked out when we dug in about two thirds way up. 4lo and briefly stuck. Flip on the locker and select mud/sand, ta da up that hill. She still wasn’t too happy about it, haha(too steep).
