Moab Spring 2020- T4R Group Camping

Update: 1/29

@Diver Deuce and myself we’re exploring Moab last weekend and decided to organize a T4R group camping trip to Moab for this spring.

Camping location: Kane Creek Campground, private group site B with porta-potties and showers. Update: Cost will be $35 per person for both nights. I’m waiting on kids pricing from the campground. The site is large and can accommodate up to 25ppl.

June 12-14.

Dates : June 12-14

Things to do: it’s Moab... wheel, climb, hike, bike, whitewater. We will organize daily trail rides.

Evening campfires- we need to locate a firewood supplier.

Communications: GMRS/FRS/HAM

This is still in the early planning stages but I’m sure it will be just as successful and fun as the annual Cove trips, and hopefully less expensive.

1. @Sleeter (2 adults, 2 kids 7/9yo) - Confirmed
2. @Diver Deuce (2 adults, 1 kid 1yo) - Confirmed
3. @S Brake - Tentative
4. @Madmartygan - Tentative
5. @spartacus 2 adults 2 kids 7/4yo - Tentative
6. @utahman11 4 adults - Tenative

This trip looks incredibly fun. I wish I new what my work schedule is going to look like that far out.

Very interested. Been a couple years since my last Moab trip. With my work schedule I could be there from Friday night through Monday.

Very interested. I'd rather have a good campsite, so keep us posted on alternatives if this one apparently sucks. I've been trying to figure out when to make a trip down this year, and I'd love to meet up in a big group for the first time.

Edit: also checking with another friend to see if they're interested. Would be at least 4 of us, 2 4runners.

Edit 2: I'm not sure what those first two acronyms are for the comms...? Is anyone else going to be running CB? Is it worth swapping my CB for a HAM (I'm unfamiliar with HAM)?

Awesome! We have been checking out other alternatives and so far they are worse...

CB sucks for almost everything except talking smack to truckers. You can find cheap GMRS/FRS radios on amazon.

Man this sounds like a blast... though I think life is going to prevent me from making a commitment. Though it is totally in the range of when I was planning on trying to get out to some place out west with the family. Not sure about trying to camp with our toddler though yet...

Interesting...

Had my CB radio for almost year now. Spent about 4 months on channel 19 and maybe had a couple truckers... they're all hams nowadays. CB in my experience has been by far the best 4x4 comms method I've had. Lots of accessory support, good & cheap products. Wattage is higher than FRS. Don't need a license and seems to be much more common than GMRS. I hadn't heard of GMRS until today (not that I'm particularly educated about it however).

Best 4x4 comms compared to what? Yelling out the window? CB has horrible clarity and propagation compared to FRS GMRS.

Yeah, no. Wattage has nothing to do with it; frequencies and modulation type put VHF/UHF HAM/FRS/GMRS head and shoulders above CB in range and quality.
