Wrenching Benches

Not really how to work this topic.

How do you like wrenching on your 4runner. Do you have small Rollin tool box with a flat top on it? Or do you have one big mega bench that is stationary and you walk back and forth between the 4runner and bench to get your tools you need while you work.

I'm looking for a new rolling tool box but can't find any with a nice flat top. I like the us generally 26inch ones but the foldable tray isn't enough for me and you really don't have anything to rest stuff on other that that tray

My garage isn't enclosed and my storage faces away from my garage towards the patio. So I have a rolling tool box.

But once I get my garage enclosed I will get a stationary one to keep in there. Prolly keep the rolling one to throw shit on but not much.

i wrench on mine in the absolute worst way possible. on the ground, not enough light, and usually just myself. i certainly dont recommend it but i get done what i need to and i dont have to worry about anyone else's work.

hell i even have a dedicated 'roll around on the floor' jacket that has all sorts of grease stains on it.

tools are what i grab. by the time i am done doing what i need to do, it is usually a pile of random dirty tools.

I have a short stool w/ wheels that sometimes I set my plastic craftsman tool case w/ drawers on top of and roll next to my vehicle, though most of the time I set the tools on the ground while I'm on my creeper or rolling stool. That way they are easy to access just roll over to them. Most of the time, lately at least, I've been working under my truck.

I've made a nice welding table with casters that might change a few things with my setup but other than that I have a larger craftsman tool box that has the rest of my tools in, and it doesn't ever move from its spot in the garage.

Finished the weld table, had to do some rearranging to fit it in my stupid garage. Went together very easily actually, really happy with it.

Before we moved to AZ last year, I couldn't use the garage. Too much stuff in there. But my 3 rolling chests were easily accessible. We did have a large flat concrete driveway so working on vehicles was good dependent upon the weather.
Now, same condition in the garage. But no concrete driveway. Just 2½ acres of dirt & rocks.
Hoping to pour a 20'x20' slab that will eventually become a carport with intentions of eventually enclosing it, doubling the size of the garage.
Throwing away family heirlooms will free a lot of space too.
Where this is parked is where I have to work.

I like to stay pretty organized … I have a few tool boxes now including one HF US General 72” box which has quickly turned into my favorite due to the size and height which is perfect for standing and working on the surface.

Most of them stay pretty stationary and I take the tools to the truck/workbench but I have a small toolbox and peg board near my primary work bench with and I usually keep the relevant tools in that area until I finish up what I’m doing.

While I do wrench on the truck for maintenance, upgrades, install suspension, brakes... I gravitate towards electrical work/modifications so a good amount of my setup is tailored to building/testing electrical items.

I wish I could discuss wrenching bench options... I just don't have space for a rolling tool box or a work bench.

Instead I have an old TV tray I break out when needed and put a few key tools/parts on it.

The rest are on the ground; a balance between conveniently close and not a safety hazard. Do with what you've got, I guess!

Saw that welding table in your build thread, damn that thing is sweet!
I have one of those HF "welding" tables, it's borderline useless.
