must be senile ?

so ...I am comparatively an old single fart....67.
I moved from the back woods where I lived, worked and spent almost all my off hours hitting old back roads fishing hunting rafting exploring central Oregon ( McKenzie bridge and sisters area) to move to Alaska last year where my youngest son and family live. We have been doing lots of hunting and fishing....my oldest son has a charter boat in seward...about 6 hour drive from me. I have worked outside with my hands all my life it seems So lately after a true adventure last fall that would make my oreogn trips seem mellow.. I have been loading up on all kinds of recovery gear and a winch and about to order an ARB bumper... ( was gong to do a hidden winch behind a stock bumper..but have come near hitting moose several times) as roads I have already hit are more remote than oregon and i travel alone..my shocks are shot so thought well why not do a mild lift....when I was told ....dad ...are you nuts...your too old for this.
so...am I being an old senile fart and being stupid...I dont think so...but its what is being hinted at me.
most of you are young guns are ready to play for many years
should i just bag it and stick to well maintained boring roads and fish walk in spots ?

ok...got to add...well a cbi dual swing out rear would be next and i am working on getting my ham radio license

looking for confirmation either way...

Don't worry about what anyone says they don't know what you are capable of only you do. Do what makes you happy. The island of Okinawa is known for longevity and those guys work hard into their eighties even nineties. Have your son watch the amazon prime documentary The Okinaway of life. There are a lot of younger guys who are way worse in shape then some of the old working folks.

Don't listen to anyone telling you your too old for this stuff. I've learned my best tips, tricks and lessons from the old timers. If you stop now where will the young and dumb get good advice from? I bet you could teach all sorts of people all sorts of good stuff. Don't deprive the younger generations of knowledge that will just get lost!!

Keep doing what you enjoy doing, or what you feel like doing until you can’t. I’m 73, and was a desert rat for 35+ yrs. and still enjoy the outdoors. I installed my rock sliders, and skid plates by myself on the concrete no problem.

I think your kids are trying to tell you that they want to join you on your adventures!
I have an ARB bumper on my 3rd gen and have hit a deer with it. No damage to the bumper or truck other than a cracked turn signal lens. But I'm not sure how well it would hold up to a moose strike!

yep...the moose are big..people that do have big bumpers usually bounce them over and onto hood and windshield...so that kind of sucks...but deer can do that too
and so many moose that light bars etc are called moose lights.
Even the DMV drivers manual does not make reference to auxiliary lights...but does "moose lights"

Well, I've got you beat in age by 7 years and I still do a lot of fairly extreme off-roading. I have a seriously modified FJ Cruiser (solid axle swap) and a heavily modified 4-runner. Do weekly off-road outings in Crested Butte, CO during the summer and early fall months and go to Moab every few years. I also do a lot of very challenging mountain bike rides and tons of climbing on my road bike so age has had little impact on my lifestyle or the things I choose to do.

I'm just now getting into offroading at 61 years old.
Having fun is what it's about.
