Snatch block, worth the investment?

What I found:

Ironman rated at 17,600lbs - $44
ARB rated at 30,000lbs - $85

I have a 10.5k winch and a 3rd gen 4runner weighing in just under 5000 lbs.

Is the ARB overkill?

go with the arb.

just because the 4runner weighs 5k, doesn't mean you wont pulling against much more than if you get stuck badly.

likely the other one would be fine, but really, its $40. go for the good one.

I was hoping you would say the ironman was a steal lol. Ive used their products before and been pleased. I'm going to investigate their recovery equipment a little farther before I completely mark them off the list but you have me leaning towards the ARB.

it very well may work just fine. I think I only paid about $35 for my block at the swap meet. but I don't remember what its rated at.

I just know that some of the pulls we've used it on...have been extreme. for $40, I wouldn't want to be walking home..ya know?

if you really don't have enough for the better block, by all means go for the other one. its a hell of a lot better than not having one.

No such thing as overkill, go with the ARB.

I have had both ARB models, and they work great. Using a block makes winching much easier on the vehicle/winch, and in unusual situations where the other vehicle may be in a hard to reach spot.

We've been training with ARB blocks for years an have had only one failure - sheive clip broke.

Remember - the block can encounter tremendous loads during re- directs depending on angle of "legs" into and out of block. The greater the angle the less force on block and when using a block for 2:1 mechanical advantage your putting TWICE the load on the block.(The winch line "legs" are damn near parallel. Throw a couple blocks in a winch rigging and you'd be surprised how quickly you can approach WLL.
