?? Bull Bar - Winch w/ Stock XREAS Suspension

Question:

Does anyone have an ARB or Shrockworks bumper with winch and stock XREAS suspension?

I want to know if ride is much more harsh due to added weight on front end. Is it so bad that a suspension upgrade is a must?

I have a 1.25" leveling kit, XREAS, and OE tire size. I want to add a Shrockworks Bumper and winch but don't want to have to replace my suspension system as well just to handle the added weight up front.

I saw that Lance's website indicated that a suspension upgrade is likely needed if a bumper/winch is added. Jim at Shrockworks claims that front end will drop about 1/4"-1/2" with OE suspension and bumper only. Will drop about 1/2"-3/4" with OE suspension and bumper and winch.

In place of a new shock and coil or coilover system up front, can I get away with only replacing coils over XREAS shocks? I am looking for keeping stock ride and level lift height but want to add bumper/winch. I hate to have to totally abandon the XREAS system just to upgrade suspension to be able to add a bumper/winch. Seems upgrading can spiral out of control.

Any advice or links to threads addressing this would be greatly appreciated. No luck researching threads for this precise of a topic.

OK. I assume by the lack of response that my original query can't be done or isn't a good idea.

After further research on this site and elsewhere, I am considering a new plan. I am thinking about abandoning the XREAS like so many others have done that have installed a bull bar (metal bumper) and purchasing adjustable coilovers for the front and NO LIFT shocks for the rear. Since I expect to only ever install 265/70/17 (32") tires and no larger (currently running 265/65/17 Firestone ATs), I don't see the need for a 2" lift in the rear but want the adjustables in the front so that I can compensate for the sag caused by the heavier bumper as well as level out the front to the rear.

I am leaning toward Sway-A-Ways (SAWS) in the front but not sure what would match well for the rear for stock height. My goal is to maintain the quality of the ride provided by the XREAS system with the added benefit of compensating for a heavier front end caused by the bumper/winch. Recognize that rear shocks need to be balanced with spring rate/dampening of front coilovers. Not sure if anyone else has ever attempted this type of setup?

Any suggestions? Advice greatly appreciated.

The problem with running spacers or a taller coil with stock shocks is valving. Your operating the shock in a range 1-3" higher than it was designed for. So it will be stiffer and not as durable.

SAWs are a good choice up front. A lot of people feel Donahoes handle better on-road. But getting them serviced can take time. Go for the rear SAW shocks and order custom Deaver coils. Search on "Deaver" Another member has ordered rear coils with 1" lift, 30% stiffer. I'm sure they can to 0 lift, 30% stiffer.

And I've never read someone regretting going from X-REAS to coilovers. Coilovers just ride great.
