Procedure to turn off 2008 seat belt chime

Hey guys,
To turn off your seat belt chime do the following:

1) make sure the trip meter is in ODO mode.

2) turn the key to the ON position (dont start)

3) within a few seconds of turning it to ON, press and hold the trip reset for 15 seconds

4) while holding the trip reset, buckle drivers seat belt

5) odo reading will change to "B-on"

6) press trip reset once to change to " B-off"

Turn off car.

All done!

PS Wear your belts!!!!!

Hey Abe,

I just tried this a few times in my rig with no results. I never got the "B-on" or "B-off" display on my odometer.

I tried waiting a few seconds after turning on the ignition switch before pushing the reset button,

I tried pushing the reset button immediately after turning on the ignition switch.

I tried buckling the driver seat belt after the 15 seconds of holding the reset button were up.

I tried buckling the seat belt during the 15 seconds of holding the reset button.

I'd really like to accomplish this because then my 4Runner will be perfect :-)

What am I doing wrong?

-Tim

Edited due to typo :-)

Disregard my post above... It worked!

I just tried it again and it worked perfectly! I think I figured out what I was doing wrong before. I think I may have had the driver's door open the first time I tried the procedure and that must have prevented it from working.

Thanks Abe for the excellent info!

Its just a simple toggle, 30 seconds to activate...30 seconds to reverse.

However, there are zero effects to having it off all the time, other than just the beeper.

I mean zero effect on operation/airbags/warranty/etc

That's great
Glad to hear that it doesn't affect anything but the ding.
This is really amazing!! How is it you know this but Toyota said "can't be done" to both Tim & I. They hooked my car to the computer & it said no!!!!!

This is sure going to be very helpful to me.
I hope it works for when the door is open also.

Thanks again

among other things, things such as bluetooth transfers of entire phonebooks into the Lexus cars

I need to clarify...

The seatbelt warning chime in my 4Runner is OFF, Period.

What I was trying to explain is that the first time I tried the procedure to turn off the seatbelt warning chime, I was sitting in the truck with the driver's door open and the procedure did not work.

I tried again, this time sitting in the truck with all of the doors closed, and it worked just fine.

Hope that clears things up :-)

no, i believe hes talking about that chime if you have the key in the ignition but the driver door open and the only way to turn it off is to turn to "on" and it disappears after 5 beeps.

That chime has no off switch im aware of, but nothing is impossible

Yes Abe, you got it right, that was my poorly worded question.
That one is also a constant problem when you get in and out a lot. You don't really want to remove the key every time when you get out but stay next to the car.

Please let us know if you figure this one out.

Thanks again.

Honestly if i was in your shoes, i would disconnect the actual chime. Should be easy to find with all the noise it makes!

Yes, I think were down to that!!!

I tried it last month with no luck.
The sound seems to be coming from everywhere under there.
Guess I'll have to try again.

I am a bit afraid that there may be other warnings that also go to that chime that we may not want to cut off. So before proceeding, guess I should make a list of every signal that goes to that chime.

If i learn any thing, will let all know.

At least with your help I've got the main one done.

Thanks again.

The only other beep ive ever heard a toyota make is when you *really* push the VSS system and it takes an aggressive action to correct your course, but its more like a stop watch beeping.

I think that chime can safely be grounded with no ill effects..

Great, glad to hear that, that should keep things simple.
