Semi-Tame place near Terre Haute, IN for a Stock 4th Gen?
Do you guys know of any place near Terre Haute, IN that I could exercise the 4 wheel drive? I've never done any off roading and my T4R is bone stock with Bridgestone Dueler AT's (not revo). I don't know anybody here at school that does off road stuff but I'm sure I could find someone if I really tried, but since you guys know what my vehicle is capable of, I thought you'd be a good place to start!
Well, unless you know somebody who has private property you are unfortunately limited to actual off-road parks in this general area(at least that I am aware of). You can hit Cliffs over in Marsailles, IL. Or go the sand dunes on Lake Michigan.
I think there is a Indiana chapter on TTORA that may provide some other locations.
I got a local spot I hit every now and then, but it surely would not be worth your drive.
Guess I should brush up on my Hoosier State geography before I speak. Dude, you are super close to Badlands - it's only an hour or so from you. I only wish I was that close.
OK I watched some videos...looks like Badlands is worth the drive :P
Are there some nice wide open, not super muddy areas in there? Looks like there's a few at least. Also, if I just show up do you think I could join a group and go with them when I get there?
I am sure you would have no problem finding somebody to follow, there are a lot of by-passes around things there.
You should have much more area to roam in a stock 4th gen. than you would at Cliffs.
Also check out Ih8mud.com and search the clubhouse for the Indiana chapter(Hoosier Cruisers). They go there quite often and they are a great group of guys.
Well thanks for the help! It looks like their next get together up there is May 1st-3rd. Maybe I can get up there that weekend for a day. We'll see. Or maybe you could meet me up there :P
Of course I'll have to do this all over again this summer when I go out to Iowa for work. :bonk:
Badlands is a fun place to go to for even stock. There was plenty to mess around on/in with my basically stock 3rd generation. Have Revo's too. Awesome tire but have a tendency to cake up with real thick mud sometimes

Must have missread...I have the regular AT's, NOT the Revos- but I doubt that will hurt me too much since I'm a wimp and I'll probably skip all the hard stuff anyway! :P I'm really afraid to bang up the truck...my dad would kill me!
I suppose I should ditch the running boards when I go too right? ;)
You might also want to check out Interlake which is located in Lynnville, IN. It is further away than the badlands, but still not to far (probably about 2 hr.s). I will post a link below that has all the info. about it. Enjoy! http://www.in.gov/dnr/outdoor/4226.htm
after off roading this weekend and going up some black diamond in a completely stock 97, I think you don't have to worry so much. These trucks are very capable.
