my rock sliders build

looky what I picked up today:

gonna weld them on this weekend!

I had a offroad shop cut and bend the pipes for me since I don't have any of that gear and I want them to look decent.

yeah I like personally doing and knowing what all goes on my 4runner, gives me a lot more satisfaction. I don't even know how to weld My buddy does though and he's gonna show me how.

Are you going to weld directly to the chassis or are you making bolt on brackets?

they're gonna go straight onto the chassis, I thought about making brackets to weld on but decided that would be too much work.

here is what I got done today:

measured out where each support arm would go:

welded those on:

also dremeled out part of each front fender flare so they will look nice where they curve inward:

had to pause after that, I don't think we'll be able to finish up till next weekend.

anybody have any recommendations on what color they I should paint them?

finished up the passenger side slider today, am now painting them flat black, its a primer but I'm not sure if I'll put another color one top of that yet. They are going on tomorrow!

they're on

found the time to weld them on today, I think they turned out pretty nice, and they sure as hell ain't ever gonna come off haha...

overall this was a great project, got me into welding and home fabrication, really cool stuff.
While at a metal warehouse store this morning I was like a kid in a candy store! Ended up coming out with a 8 feet of 2x2" 3/16" thick square steel tube that will eventually become a custom offroad front bumper! I'll keep you all updated on that as it progresses...

Great stuff man. I like the look a lot, and I bet you saved a ton of money and had a lot more fun than buying from a retailer.

I would have your mounting plates larger and used some gusset's. It looks good though.

you mean put gussets on each support bar where they meet the main bar? I didn't really see the need since the majority of the stress will be vertical from rocks pushing up or people standing on them and pushing down.
and those mounting plates are about as big as I could go, they take up most of the side on the chassis frame.
