Off-roading Trip to Colorado

Hey all,

My brother and I are planning a trip to Colorado on the 3rd week of September. If anyone of you guys want to join us (and maybe show us around the good trails), then just PM me.

My brother will bring his lifted (2") Rubicon, while i will take my MB G500.

These are the stuff that we are bringing with us:

- duct tapes (several rolls)
- extra gas can (empty)
- GPS and compass
- air pump and air guages
- hand-held lights, flash lights
- tow ropes (4)
- first-aid kit
- tools kit
- vice grip and plyers
- hi-lift
- radio and batteries (lots)
- Colorado 4wd trail book
- DVD player
- tent and air mattress (?)

Anything else?

Thanks in advance.

What type of terrian will you be doing? Are you going to do mild trails or something more hardcore?

Well I would add:
1) Small shovel
2) Gloves
3) Make sure you have proper tow ropes and very strong towing shackles
4) Tire repair kit
5) FRS or CB radios to communicate between rigs (assume radio you mentioned??)
6) SOmething to cut branches (bypass lopers, etc you dont want scrtaches on your new baby, especially since it is black)
7) You might want to take some wooden blocks with, they make a good support base for the jack and if you take a couple of long pieces you can use it for a ramp at difficult obstacles (I started taking 3' by 12" by 3" wood pieces with, only used it once at Pismo to dig ahriman out)

Can't think of anything else now, ask Lance aka GoodTimes.

Probably some climbing and rocks...i doubt that we will hit deep mud unless it rains in CO.

Yup, forgot about shovel and boards...will definitely get them. We have 4 strong tow ropes already. Each of us have our own spare...plus i have a can of that "goo" to put in tire. We have FRS radio b/w us. We were thinking about satellite phone...but we're debating on that one.

Thanks.

Looks fairly complete, but I don't see a fire extinguisher, and I would lean toward a safety seal tire kit ( http://www.safetyseal.com ) instead of "the can of goo".

safetyseal is a must for any offroading trip. I posted about a guy that sells them really cheap $28 plus shipping.

Get one of those $40 dollar tire repair kits just incase. (just seen someone posted safety seal

I would bring a shovel, axe, and saw if you have the space.

How about for food? I see tent on your list with a ? next to it.. Are you thinking about cooking out there also? If so, I can throw up some more information.

Re: Off-roading Trip to Colorado

shackles and straps
blanket
2x4's or 3x6's or something to that effect
motor oil
tranny oil
coolant
water
shovel
axe

spare axles if you run into problems (full/half).

o yeah if you're camping camping... microwave would be cool too! ;) food and lots of water! (just in case)

that's about it I think... unless I forget something else...

Thanks all for your helpful input...except you, Gatorgreg.

I am trying to get away from camping...my brother and his wife want to. That's just too much equipment to carry.

Again, thanks.

Satellite phone.

What are the costs for a satellite phone? Can you rent one, what does it cost to buy one, is there a monthly subscription fee, what are the airtime charges?

My brother found one that charges $40/week, not including air time. It's probably very expensive to make a call...so, it should only be for emergencies.

I am 6'4" so I carry the bag. I have a Large.

Check out this link here, this is the 2004 version of the bag: http://www.rei.com/online/store/Prod...cat=REI_SEARCH

Very good quality and works great to put all your equipment in. Always the best to pack light and compact.
