I would never buy anything other than Warn or Ramsey. I only know of one person who uses a SmittyBilt winch, but his is one of their better ones.

If you feel confident that it will hold up for years to come, and get the job done when you need to use it, then go for it. However, remember that a winch is your life-line when you need to use it, and it's not something you want to skimp on. If it breaks when you need it, you will be kicking yourself for a very long time.

I'm curious about your 'custom designed bumper'. Are you doing all the welding, metal tweaking, drilling nad everything? If so, I'd love to see some pics, unless of course you plan to market/sell the design.

That would be insane to be able to design my own bumper.

You get what you pay for with winches. I have said that since I've dealt with them. Warn. Lifetime warranty And built to last. I have used a few of them and thats all we use on our race/trail/crawl vehicles. Think about going with rope. More expensive but much stronger.

X2 on the synthetic line (not rope).

True. Thanks for that or might have a ton of Pm's in the morning......LOL

Wire is not allowed in competition. The reason for that is beacuse It's dangerous. Rope(synthetic line) is stronger and more predictable.

Smittybilt are rebranded t-max. People have pulled them apart and found t-max cast on the internals.

Ever have to pull a Metal sliver out of your hand? Even went through gloves, have also seen it destroy a front end after it broke while recovering a Duece and a half. I will only run a Synthetic line on a Winch now.
