Off road trailer

Hi I'm new to the forum and was just wondering if anyone uses an off road trailer and if so which one? Thanks

I'll be "flipping the axles" on my 5x8 utility trailer to give another 4" clearance to take camping.

I've casually researched this topic a couple of times and found a few links...

http://www.adventuretrailers.com/trailers.html

Trailer Blueprints | Trailers + Trailer Parts | Northern Tool + Equipment

http://www.gt1.homeip.net/project-trailer.htm
and
BananAlbum

Off Road Trailer Build

Searching "off-road trailer" turns up a ton of information.

Good luck,
Jon

I am currently working on a light weight trailer. Yea, I know it sits kinda low.
I welded a skid plate to the axle so I can drag it over rocks, etc...
I figure if it is small & light enough, I don't need it to sit real high, I can just drag it over stuff and not tax the pulling vehicle ( 2.4 liter in the '87 )

A buddy of mine makes these trailers here in Florida. His build quality is #1. He is seriously OCD with the details on what ever he builds. You should see this little boat he built by hand!

Are those at least 12" wheels?

I've had some similar thoughts....if it's light enough, I can drag it. However, a larger diameter wheel will definitely smooth out the ride over bumpy stuff and even ease the burden of pulling through it.

I intend to upsize my wheels after lifting mine:

I wish!
No, they are 8".
I am in Florida, so no major rock gardens to drag this through to camp. I can pick it up by myself, so when I say light, I mean really light.
It may weigh 200 - 250 lbs. when the tent is on and the camping gear stowed in the pod.
I have taken it out with a roof top luggage pod on it with my camping gear and it did fine pulling it over obstacles.
I am putting a roof top tent on it I picked up off craigslist for $350, so will be pretty cool & cheap when complete.
I can always upgrade to 'Yota 6 lug spindles down the line and give it a lift if need be.

If you have the 10-15k to buy a trailer then you cannot beat the Adventure Trailer brand. However that being said there are several other options out there that can be modified fairly easy by flipping the axle or even ordered with a flipped axle and matching lug patterns. Wells Cargo MPT is a 4x6 enclosed available in 24-48" internal height with a flip open lid in the 2K range.
Wells Cargo MPT - Multi-Purpose Trailers Gallery - Wells Cargo Corporation

Otherwise if you can weld you can buy an axle and all the other stuff for under 1k.
