Must be. My computer is slow as ****. Your computer must be faster by more then that.

I don't know if it is biased but your mid 2009 MBP is running an Intel 2.53 GHz core2duo.

In a vs test against an i7 @ 3.6 GHz the OC'd i7 is going to smoke it. I had a 2010 MBP 2.66 core2duo and while it was fast, my PC was almost 4x faster.

The i7 has 4 true cores and 4 addition cores via hyperthreading. The speed jump from core2duo to i7 was huge. Even when the new MBPs come out, I doubt they will even match the OC'd i7 920.

I actually to buy the new 15" MBP which will probably be an i5 / i7.

:P

Yeah, the original price was around $5000, but I let someone else pay that--I got it two years ago off eBay for $1200! I had never had a really serious computer, and since I dabble with graphics-heavy games occasionally, I needed the horsepower to do it smoothly. I'm not about to pay multiple thousands for a computer, not without a more serious reason than games (LOL)!

Okay, I decided what-the-heck, and downloaded the program (I'll have to use my laptop for the rest of the week for internet--oh well!). I got a 6.29 on the CPU, but my ancient 4870x2 video card could only produce 23.69 fps on the OpenGL test. This is how little I know on some computer stuff--how the heck do I get one of those screen captures? I tried right-clicking on the screen, and nothing happened (I was going to "Save As", but apparently that won't work). Any help for a computer bonehead??

Hold down the control button and hit the key labeled "Print Screen" on your keyboard. This takes a snapshot of what your monitor currently shows. Then, open up the program paint and paste it into a blank project. Then save as .jpg, GL

I guess that's a good step in the right direction--not too shabby for a 3 1/2 year old rig. All I need is a new graphic card to bring her to full life again. Here's the screenshots--I ran the test again and got slightly lower numbers with the internet running in the background, but the variations were fairly small (6.25 to a max of 6.32, and 23.55 to a max of 23.69 fps).

Ha, that I know, running 2TB RAID in the DT and 4TB RAID in the external, with a dell XPS8300 w/i7.......still that is a BIG program, for it to be called 'small' is not the most accurate. I know was surprised it was called small as 3dmark is not small at all, figured it was something simple but effective (and small). Just figured I would warn others who might have had a different idea of small vs big.

Bob,
You can find a faster video card but expect to spend $300 for something decent.

My GTX470 is over a year old but still pretty quick.

Dude you need to OVERCLOCK that thing! I have OC'd my 920 i7 for over a year now from 2.66 to 3.6 GHZ... I just used the mobo's built is preset for 3.6 GHz OC and it worked great.

:P

Thanks for the info, Brian--I've been pricing them for some time now, and already was planning on spending around that for one. It's not a major priority right now, and the one I have does quite well on nearly everything I've got (haven't bought any new games for a while). At least I won't need to worry about upgrading the power supply when I do get a new card--this sucker has 1000W from the factory! I just always thought it was rather ironic--the one thing I do that requires this kind of computing power is also the least important or business-like task (LOL)! That's why I was willing to buy this rig used, something I would normally never do--I can't justify the price of a new one just for gaming ability. At least now I know I've got something that can do WHATEVER I require of it, and for many years to come.

Oh, I'll play from the new office machine tomorrow. It's a stock iMac with 4mb ram I think and I'm curious how it'll stack up. If I don't post by noon est, somebody call me.
