CenturyLink?

anyone here have CenturyLink?

i am moving into a house that doesnt offer comcast... and i personally dont liek cox, but my roomate and i have decided we dont really watch tv anyways(more netflix if anything) so we decided to just get internet.

my questions are... its cheap... but is it as fast as it says?

and, should i just get my own modem? or pay the $99 for one of theirs?

any other opinions/companies are welcome as well.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think Certurylink used to by Quest, till DirectTV bought them. If you plan on getting DirectTV, you might be able to get a nice package deal. My girlfriend use to have Quest and had a lot of problems with the service; she kept having to reset her modem. So if Centurylink is the new name for Quest, then I would stay away.

I live in Phoenix and use COX for internet and Direct for cable (soon to be turned off, due to lack of usage). I have never had a problem with the internet, but they have raised my rates twice in the last year. I still think cable is better than DSL.

As for the modem, I would shop around and see if you find a better deal, but $99 isn't bad, just make sure your not paying anything extra per month.

yeah century link is $29 a month for 20mbps... but i want more. just internet for cox is $69 for 55mbps... but thats only for the first 3 months. and so i am trying to get ahold of them to see what the price would be after that.

and i agree cable is way better than dsl... but dsl is cheap haha. you get what you pay for i guess.

maybe ill just wait and see if any neighbors have wireless that they didnt password protect.... hahaha jk.

The Premier is normally $94.99
Internet Pricing & Plans serving Arizona | Cox Communications

I have the Preferred and normally stream about 2 movies and about 5-7 hours of TV week. I have my home computer, work laptop, Roku, Xbox and Kindle fire all hooked up to wireless and never have any problems, except for the odd modem reboot once in awhile.

If you do a fair amount of downloading and stream a lot more movies and TV, then I think the Premier package would work best for you; if you end up with COX.

If you go with CenturyLink, get your own modem.

I agree. We had 2 centurylink modems stop working on us. I got my own and never had a problem again. Great customer service when they went bad though.

IMHO, if I had to choose between Cox and CenturyLink, I'd go with Cox.

I have had Qwest/Century Link for about 8 yrs now. Like it was said before, buy your own modem for sure. I would never do Comcast/Cox in my area. The speed is great, but the outages in this area are horrible. I can count on 2 fingers the number of times in 8 yrs I have had issues with phone/internet through Century Link. I moved 3 yrs ago, and I did lose some of my speed options, but I still like it and it works for everything I need to do.
