Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival

Spent Saturday checking out the qualifying sessions and pits at the Historic Motorsports Festival at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma. I won't even pretend to be done with going through all the pics yet, but I got a good start since I've been home coughing, sneezing and other things you don't want to know about.

Anyway here's a couple teaser shots

I still have a LOT more to sort through and I'll post a link once I have actually gone through them all.

What could be better than seeing a bunch of killer classics? Seeing (and hearing) them rip around a race track! That's awesome!

Back when I was in Ohio, I always tried to make it to the Vintage Grand Prix weekend held at Mid-Ohio Raceway near Lexington--tons of gorgeous old racecars (and plenty of hot cars in the parking areas, too!), and an equally beautiful race course to wander around. I can see we have very similar taste in car models, SF--you have shots of many of my favorites, including one of my all-time favorite Ferraris, the 246 Dino GTS. While the newer cars have certainly stepped up the track performance, the necessities of design imposed by aerodynamics have taken a LOT out of the beauty of these cars--it's a shame high-end racecars have lost much of the gorgeous lines of the older models (with a few exceptions, like the Aston Martin LeMans-style racer, for instance). Great stuff--thanks for sharing!

The whole day was amazing but my highlight was actually on the drive up. I drove my (new to me) MR2 Spyder up, had the top down, and caught the MG club right at the tool booth for the San Rafael bridge. Getting to cruise over the bridge watching these guys enjoy their cars up close was just a really cool experience.

I've been to a couple of the Ferrari Challenge series this year, and the new stuff just doesn't have that same feel. They are damn fast, but everything is almost too perfect. I just love the diversity that you get at events like this. The cars aren't all so cookie cutter that they all have to take the same line through every corner. You can actually see 3 cars in a corner and have 3 different lines, 3 different driving styles, and you really don't know the outcome until the other end of the corner.

I honestly didn't think it would take this long to sort through all of those photos, but in all fairness, we hit the Goodguys show the day after I was at the qualifying sessions for the historic race, and I did just get a "new" car that I have been enjoying between driving, wrenching on and planning for, so you will have to excuse my ****iness.

All of the photos are up now and can be seen on my website Welcome to: | Most Designs Home Page If you see a photo you like a second click on it will open the full size image. If you can click some advertiser links from the blog page, it costs you nothing, but help me keep paying to host all of these pics.

Thank you for posting these.

I am actually in Sonoma this weekend for my Grandma's 80th.

It is really nice up here.
