Food
What food do you bring with you on the off road trips, like the local favorits.
As for me I live just west of Boston MA. (Grafton) but I bring smoked Salmon all the time since I grew up in the Pacific Northwest and I know how good Salmon is and how nutritious it is and very very tasty.

This should be in the "General Discussions" forum. Not 4Gen.

I have recently discovered the joy of veggie Ramen with hot sauce and a egg dropped in near the end.... Takes minimal fuel and water to cook and has plenty of food value to run on.
I don't get all gourmet on the trail; food is a necessity and the more wholesome food value I can pack into a single pot meal the better.
When I was paddling around Vancouver Island last year, my usual dinner would consist of angel hair pasta with dehydrated tomato sauce and then dehydrated black beans or tuna added in at the end. I was so hungry after 10 ~ 12 hours in the boat that I found that to be a gourmet meal... doesn't sound quite as good as I remember sitting here at the computer!
EDIT: Cabowally is correct in that this should be moved to "General Discussions" Mods... ?

The mountain house dry food is great. I had my first one a few weekends ago, just add hot water and you're good to go.

Love that smoked salmon!
I'm in Upstate NY and I'm usually in the woods hunting and bring a couple
of Cliff Bars along in the pocket. In the backpack is another story with all sorts of easy peasey foods, jerky, nuts, soup mix, Lots of water ect.

Around here it's not a good idea to keep food in the vehicle. We have one of these food canisters, and leave it outside and a fair distance away from the 4Runner. We wrapped reflective tape around it to make it easier to find in the dark.

When on a roadtrip I usually dont bring a lot of food. Just drinks and maybe sandwiches. When camping I like simple things hotdogs, chips, burgers, whole fruit... things that require very little prep and are convenient.

If I'm just on a road trip (3-14 hours) I bring food with high protein and something with sugar and water.
If I'm going to bivouac I bring something I can eat cold like canned ravioli in case I can't get a fire going (if it's wet), water purification tablets, a flint and striker (if it's dry), and a cooler of beer, water bottles, and fried chicken and sandwiches with processed meat (preserves longer). Might as well die happy if all goes wrong.

Only fresh meats and veggies we keep in the fridges. Generally enough fresh meats and veggies to last a week.

Bring a camp stove or BBQ and cook any food that your heart desires. Nothing beats a nice hot tasty meal when out exploring/camping.
