Windows 8 - Have you used it / tried it out yet?

Have you used windows 8 yet?

Do you like it ?

Will you upgrade your desktop?

Will you upgrade your laptop?

I don't like it all. I think it will be a huge failure. I am currently on Windows 7.

Looks like it has much slicker internals and built-in utilities. I'm holding off running it until some 3rd party software arrives that will bring back the Win 7 look and feel.

Brian, i agree. I have NOT used it. However, reading the reviews, i got the feeling that it is more for tablets and the upcoming touch-based laptop/desktops. In my house, i have a Sony VAIO laptop and my Apple iPhones & iTouch. My laptop is not touch-based. From almost every review, my laptop is not a prime candidate for this Windows 8...so, i will stick to Windows 7.

Haven't tried it yet. I may wait till it hits torrents so I can try it for free.

Sucks, I just got my win 7 build stable enough for my liking...

Interested in hearing from more people as they try it out.

I used it on a new laptop that was purchased saturday. definitely a learning curve. I am not a fan of it and hope it isn't forced on everyone using a PC.

Hmm, I was planning on picking up a new laptop after Christmas with Win8 on it, I guess I should hold off and try it out 1st. I'm a huge fan of Win7, what's the problem people are having with 8? If you don't have touch screen hardware, what's the big learning curve?

The problem it seems is that MS did not release two versions (Windows 8 and Windows 8-Tablet), they released one version for desktops, tablets and laptops.

Almost every review from power users and tech writers say it will be a failure and makes the user less productive.

Check out YouTube and search for negative reviews.

An example: on windows 8 if you want to open two windows you can only split them vertically and according to a preset ratio, you cannot do 70/30.

ALSO you cannot run X applications at once on you desktop - such as a browser, a excel spreadsheet and play a video in corner of screen.

Conclusion seems to be that it sucks for power users, aka productive people.

I didn't say big learning curve. It's just different. Having the tiles and no start button on the desktop page is odd. I couldn't find the control panel and all that stuff when I was using it. It just seems like windows 7 but having a lot more tabs open with random stuff on it. There was a small learning curve upgrading to windows 7 and this is much more than that. You can't just start using it and "figure" everything out, at least I couldn't in the amount of time I used it.

I hate it. It sucks to do anything. Doing two things at once = Difficult. Going back and forth = Difficult. Finding anything = Difficult.

Nice Flop Windows.

I have not but I will certainly take look at it though I highly doubt I'll ever install it as I've heard many of the same complaints as the above peeps have experienced.

Also as mentioned above I too have finally gotten win7 set-up just the way I want it on my two laptops and my desktop and they are all playing nice in thier homegroup so no need to throw a monkey into the works.

Same here, I've set everything up on Windows 7 just right for me and I like it a lot. I don't personally see the need for Win 8 unless school starts upgrading, then we will have a problem.

The worst part is that Xbox has the same design. Which is ****! You can't find anything ever. I'm really good with computers, heck I even own my own iPhone Repair business, but it took me 15 minutes to find Demo Games on the Xbox 360!

That's the sad part. I'm a CS major and very tech savvy and still had trouble with Win8

I heard they will release the Desk Top version later. What's out there now is just for Tablets/Touch Screens.
