Wow my iphone 4 has a TERRIBLE camera. Those pics are unreal, especially coming from a phone!

Yeah I'd like the D600, but I believe I read the price was like $2600?

Too rich for my blood til I sell some pics. What are the benefits of the full frame outside of bigger prints?

And Hepar actually PMed me about lightroom, I'm gonna give it a try. Although I can import, edit, organize, print, and share to flickr, facebook, or most other places with iPhoto as well.

I just upgraded from a D7000 to a D600, I tell you in low light big contrast you can really see the differance

Post your results and what you learn. I don't know much about nighttime photography and would love to see and read what you figure out.

The benefits of a full-frame are that the sensor is significantly bigger than a crop-frame sensor. Therefore you're going to get way more information. It's going to give you better detail, not to mention better low-light performance amongst other things. The D600 I think is under $2k for the body. Sort of an entry-level pro body.

Yah Lightroom is simply the best do-everything software. Wait until you see all of the presets, develop functions, noise reductions options, and even layer masking tools.

Full frames have a larger sensor, as mentioned above. You will get less noise and better low light performance. The sensor will not heat up as much or as fast as a crop sensor (one of the reasons for noise on digital SLR's - the sensor heating up). You also gain an increase in Depth of Field with a full frame. I'm not sure how this is accomplished technically, but I would assume it has to do with the larger sensor being more sensitive to changes in other camera parameters like aperture.

Can be a positive OR a negative depending on the photographer but your a crop sensor camera will magnify the focal length of the lens. For example my Rebel XSi had 1.6x crop factor. So, if my lens was reaching to 100mm, what I was seeing in my photo was actually captured at 160mm. The full frame will take it at a 1:1 ratio - 100mm focal length is 100mm. So generally a crop frame sensor camera will give you more "zoom" or reach right out of the box, but this will limit you at the wide end of things. My current widest lens is 24mm. 24mm on at 1.6x crop is 38mm which is not very wide especially for landscape style photography, however 24mm on a full frame is very useable for most wide-situations.

My 14-24mm is my favorite. I've had it for a while now and haven't gotten tired of it yet. I think I love the fact that it's a rectilinear lens, so it's super wide at 14mm, but doesn't bend lines like a fish-eye.

Something else to keep in mind is that focal lengths do distort things, especially people. Here's an interesting example of what different focal lengths do when shooting portrait photography. (the original article was no longer available, but I found another article with the pictures it included)

idk call me weird (i do live close to portland...), but i love the fisheye look, and and to get a fisheye lens so bad... i think id have a ton of fun with it...

I got started in photography a little under a month ago, and I'm already getting obsessed. I own a Nikon D60(for sale currently) and a Nikon D3100. My biggest fascination is night photography. I have messed around with 30" exposures quite a bit.
This shot is made up of 18 exposures and stacked in StarStaX.

I could be wrong, but I bet you would get tired of it. It can be fun for a shot here and there, but I think the novelty of it quickly wears off. You should rent one for a couple of days and snap away. See how you feel after that.

Great shots! And the best way to learn is to be interested in it and to not be afraid to fail. For every one photo I like of mine there are thousands of them that I dislike. Even then I'm my own worst enemy and will pick even the ones I like apart.
