computer projects for kids?

Hey...I've been having issues at work. I work at an afterschool program with elementary kids. According to my boss and other co-workers...i'm the only computer literate person there. Kinda sad...but true. They want me to organize a project for our school site. Other school sites are doing e-pals...basically like penpals via e-mail. Another site is watching an egg hatch in Ohio and writing about the progress of the egg (sounds lame and boring to me). My boss does not want to 'copy' other projects.

I need help with ideas that kids could use a computer for a project throughout the school year. They have to learn while gaining experience with computers.
Thanks for any ideas.

i would say computer program but i don't think elementary kids are through those basics yet. in high school, i learned to program games and created my own games. basically if then or true/false statement. but i think for elementary kids, you could teach them about websites. you could teach kids how to edit photos. if you have photoshop, you could cut pictures and paste them into another landscape. hope these help. if you need more ideas, i'm pretty good with computers so let me know.

You should look at thestockmarketgame.org (I think thats correct!).

Its a pretty cool simulation of buying and selling on the stock exchange (NY) where kids can actually buy and sell over a period of ten weeks. At the end of the ten weeks results of the gains and losses by everyone who rergistered is posted.

It might spur some ideas for ya.

My 5th Grade kids love it. Last year we had teams that came 3rd and 5th in CA

Cheers
Mark

Hi, I'm a middle school CS teacher from Dubuque. Unfortunately, our Computer Science Education Week was cancelled (not postponed) due to the pandemic situation and the circumstances in the state. I checked After School Alliance and Vision Tech Camp already: nothing about online projects - but I need help to do my project and plan activities with 7th graders online. Has anyone here tried to work with CodeAdvantage in their school? Do they offer safe after school locations?

This website attracts the strangest bots I've ever seen. Like, I'm legit scared for my life sometimes. I think I'm going to see a naked Arnold come crashing through a wall and kill me.
