Bay Area Rapid Transit
Light Rail and Bus System that runs around the SF/Oakland area. Apparently it's making some of its customers quite mad. A few friends of my family in the Bay Area has been complaining abut it on facebook.

BART-or Bay Area Rapid Transit, is the bay area's train system. For the past seeming decade, the system has been flawed. Most recently, the employees are on a massive strike demanding better pay and benefits (which are essentially ridiculous for a flipping train operator). They want ridiculous amounts of paid leave and full benefits for family. The protests are ridiculous. Back in november, they reached an agreement. Only problem was, the stupid administration didn't read the contract. They signed it, now they're trying to take it all back. The management of the company is horrible, and the employees are demanding of something not due for them.
Now, they are raising fees to ridiculous amounts. Public transportation is supposed to be a convenience. At the current moment, it's far from it. It's a hinderance. BART riders don't know whether or not they will get to work because the employees decide to strike.
The rider experience is embarrassing. There are accidents far too often (at least once a month). Just a few weeks ago brake dust flooded the cars and prompted emergency evac. People being put in danger. This all needs fixing.
The saddest part to me though is the demanding by the employees. Seems to me like a bunch of whining.

I'm on strike against BART by minimizing my usage. The price of the ticket and daily parking fee, is equal or more than the driving to work and finding street parking.
I'm more steamed about getting my catalytic converter stolen on my T4R while parking in the lot, almost late to pickup my kid from the school & ended stuck in a muffler shop with $500-700 short. It seems it's a shopping heaven for theives since the same cars will be parked there from 8-5ish, with shortage of officers patrolling and no surveillance cameras, so that there are many other tail pipe pieces on the ground from other vehicles as well.

What kind of rates are we talking? Sounds like you have a worthy gripe. What's being done about it? Is this a contractor or actual government entity?

I rode the BART in the mid '80's and it rather sucked back then as well. Inconvenient hours, uncomfortable.

My wife takes BART everyday to work and every single day she complains about BART. The BART strike is completely absurd and when they went on strike thousands of workers could not get to their jobs in the city unless they drove across the bridge which would have taken over 3 hours one way. I think what the BART employees are complaining about and going on strike for is a complete joke and the average blue collar BART employee salary is over $76,000, and they also have some of the best benefits too. The other thing my wife complains about is when you actually have a problem with your ticket or a machine and go to the customer service booth to talk to the employee, they are actually very rude and act like you why are you bothering them and talking to them taking away their time from sitting on their butt reading a book while they are working.
