I will give everyone three guesses why DC is number one on this list; it would not have been before 2008. My property taxes on my condo tripling plus a 10.5% sales tax make it hard on the wallet. But if one can play with other people's money, then why care what one's purchasing parity is locally.
That's why I have permanent residence in the Tarheel state.
Nothing too surprising here as far as NY, NJ, and CT are concerned. As far as property taxes are concerned, they are very high in NJ in general but they effectively serve the purpose of keeping the element I don't want in my neighborhood, out of my neighborhood.
