Do you need winter tires?

I know this is a bmw blog but the general concept still applies across the board regardless of vehicle being driven.

Do you need winter tires on your BMW?

Well I didn't click the link but I can definitely say I found no value in Dunlop winter sports on my wife's 330i - shame too I drove four hours round trip for that wheel and tire set - still made my money back but yeah I never felt they made an adequate difference from the all season tires to justify their cost and ownership. Rad on dry pavement though, super fun.

ETA: well shit I clicked the link, meh. I felt they were unnecessary, ymmv. She has a '14 Grand Cherokee Limited now - great awd tow vehicle.

I think a RWD sports sedan in ice is suicide.

The traction control is so advanced in those things they're impossible to break loose.

They just get stuck on hills.

Its not always about going in the snow... its about stopping and turning too. If your going to drive in snow, snow tires are a must. And mud terrains are not snow tires.

Depends on where you live, just because it snows doesn't mean you'll have to deal with packed snow/ice covered streets for long periods of time. Where I live they are absolutely necessary. I run Duratracs on my trucks, and they really excel in these conditions, but for the E55 AMG I just picked up it will definitely be getting snow tires.
