Ol'Blue's Razor Sharp
Beside 4Runners and the outdoors I have another love, Knifes!
I have always loved them and the work that goes into them. Most of us know that a knife will only hold an edge for so long and after so much use. I have always had a thing for sharp knifes! I felt most knifes just suck with the edge they come with and that is why I have looked at about everything on the market to get past that issue.
A special someone over heard my ranting about the best sharpener I have ever seen in action. Well low and behold I ended up with one this year for Christmas.
If anyone is interested I would like some more practice. As you can tell by my stack of confetti after testing the edges, they come out VERY SHARP!
If anyone is interested just let me know. You pay shipping and I will do the rest and send it home to you. I really want to get good before I start charging. I just want to give my T4R people first dibs.
Check out the parent company Realsharp if you want. I have had the pleasure of meeting the man that started it all for this company and he is so down to earth and humble and just a cool man.

I loved working with Dark Horse. Always a good bunch of guys. Like us they took a beating up in Sangin and Nowzad.

The process to perfection....
Story and caption to follow....
Guys,
I just wanted to put together something so everyone can see the process that time that goes into each knife that I work with. This is a great example of the craftsman ship and care that I put into each blade.
First off, I'm not a professional photographer by any stretch of the imagination or do I pretend to be so don't beat me up about this.
As you can see by the edge of the blade it has little to no edge at all! If you look close at the end of the edge there is a little bit left but this knife has been worked over pretty good over the years of owner ship, there is no question about this at all.
I really wanted to keep the etching of the blade intact because of it's beauty. The steel in this blade is pretty good so I knew it would come out sharp it was just a questions of how sharp.
In the 5th photo you can see the first pass on the 120grit to reshape the steel and regrind the metal in this knife. I knew with the dings and pitting in this blade it would take a few passes.
This part of the process was done one side at a time for an even cut on the blade.

When I reshape a blade and fix all the imperfections and dings that use will have what I'm looking for is the fine shavings at the end of the cut. If you look close you can see this process.
After I see that each side of the cut is producing the fine hairs I'm looking for it is time to move onto the next step.
The cleaning of the new cut.
In the third picture you can see how the 600grit will start to clean and start the finishing work. I will now knock off all the hairs from the shaping for the new blade and the degree and angle I worked on the blade.
Picture five- This is the first pass on the felt belt. As you can see it will smooth out the edge and now I start the finishing process and make it really sharp.
This is now the process were I work the edge to make it extremely sharp to the degree that is requested by the customer.

End part of finishing process
After several passes on a 10,000 grit felt belt I'm looking make it smooth. This will needed to be done to get that clean and smooth edge so the knife will pass through anything it is cutting with ease and no hang ups.
I hope this help you all and now you understand the process I put each knife through.
Enjoy my friends.....

I guess I missed this post when you first put it up.. I have a couple of work knives that are in desperate need of a sharpening. I'd be happy to send them in.

I don't know if you are familiar with the swiss m57 Wenger bayonets? Beautifully designed, almost like a Fairbain-Sykes, but as a bayonet. But being a bayonet they are not sharpened on the "edges". Just long and pointy for one purpose. I keep a handful of them around for when I deploy and they are nice to slide in somewhere in your gear or vest as a last ditch or just a handy tool for ummm.... poking things.... I usually modify them by grinding off the barrel ring, giving it a rough edge on a bench grinder, and removing the latch lug on the back and just putting a bolt on the end as a pommel. I was just wondering how bad it would be for you to try and put a really nice even clean professional edge on one instead of me gashing metal off with a grinder? The blade is SS and about 9 1/2" long. Double edged. Didn't know if this was something you would be up to trying?

Blue,
Thanks again for the hard work you put into this knife! It turned out WAY better than I had hoped. Definitely recommend Blue's services to anyone thinking about getting their knives sharpened!
