Running sucks.

My cardio is walking 2 miles on a 25% incline on the treadmill daily. And I'm hating it.

Wow, congrats. That’s amazing. A marathon is one thing I know I will never do!

I don’t like running at all, never have, and that’s exactly why I used one of the “couch to 5K” training apps last year to train up for the first run of my life - the Saints Kickoff Run. I think doing something you don’t enjoy is good for developing better self-discipline and of course there are the health benefits.

My grandson ran it with me and we had a blast. The course winds through downtown New Orleans and the Quarter and the finish line is the 50-yard-line at the Superdome. I was really impressed that Saints owner Gayle Benson showed up at 7am to start the first group.

In fairness to these guys, there was a costume contest. ;-)

There was quite a turnout.

Did it!

Good Luck, the Big Sur Marathan was near by, but I never got into it or long distance running.

I replied a while back, and just ran my first 10k event last weekend. It was a trail run. As someone else mentioned, I find that running or cycling offroad trails is much more fun and interesting (and challenging) than roads/paved trails.

Kinda bummed though... this event also had 13.1, 50k, and 100k distances. The fast 10k guys did it in the time it takes me to run a 5k. The fast 13.1 guys did that in about the time it took me to run 10k.

We ran the 10k, then volunteered for a shift at one of the 100k aid stations. I'm not sure whether I should respect or pity those who feel inclined to run 100k? lol

I go into running when I was in graduate school and got hooked. I ran seriously from my mid 20's through my 30's. Got into cycling in my early 40's and gradually got away from running altogether (still cycling seriously though). I'm actually happy I made the switch because the wear and tear of running like I was doing would have definitely caught up with me by now. The last 3 years I was running seriously I was doing over 4,000 miles per year. I do miss being as lean as I was back then though.

True. Running does wear and tear on your knees.
