Code scanner? San Gauge II, does a lot more than you'd think.

I had a Radio Shack Pro-2026 Scanner, in a Toyota 4wd, SR5 extra-cab truck, about 20 years ago. Sorry, no pics.

I had Friends that were Officers, and another that was a Firefighter. It was interesting to hear some of the calls they went on. It even made me aware of speed traps, a couple of times. Which likely saved me some tickets.

I still have the scanner in the house, but I rarely turn it on these days.

Many departments have converted to digitally encrypted systems which makes them all but impossible to interpret. Save your money as far as a mobile unit goes. Also if a call Is extremely sensitive the officer is on a cell phone. Our local department recently went to the new type of radios and only a couple of channels are not encrypted. The public stuff is pretty mundane and fades in and out.

Most jurisdictions used trunked systems nowadays, and most of those are digital. The 2026 is neither.
You'd want a digital trunking scanner, and preferably one that will handle P25 Phase 2 (TDMA) systems. Whistler and Uniden make them, they're in the $400+ range.
No scanner will decrypt encrypted transmissions that some departments use.

Yes, but 20 years ago, when I had it in my truck, you could hear all of the action, (if you knew the correct frequencies to program) and lots of cellphone calls.

It was entertaining. But I have better things to do with my time, these days.

I know, I have a 2026 that's still usable for fire calls.
